I don't see there being any significant weight savings

If it's for a race car...the savings will moslty be in the gutted interior and tubular frontend. The 429 counters that though.

Unless the 91 is a hatch(?) Then you may save a couple hundred lbs.

I would do it.
Is it going to be a primary strip car?
If so, remove the melt mates under the carpet, there is a hyge and heavy mate under the dash to the firewall, get ride of this too. I am assuming your going carb, so remove all the heavy injection realated stuff, and gut as much of the wiring and other stuff as you feel comfortable doing.

Also get ride of the heavy steel bumpers, I belive 79-82 4 cyl had aluminum ones, try and find on of those, or try to go with a composite bumper off of the '87 up cars.

On my '85 the car wieghs 2850 with 5 gallons of fuel. Remember this is a '85 GT (hatch), with a 302 steel head motor, and still has the factory front susepension and big brakes. Forgot to add that I have a full roll over cage of 1 3/4" DOM and a 22 gallon fuel cell with full bracing as well.

I would think you should get the wieght down to 3000 lbs without to much work, do you have aluminum heads?
