Should fit right in. I knew a local guy (Bham) with one. Had bellhousing, trans, shifter, etc... I'll see if he has it. He was asking around $1000.

You have to cut the tack welds on the tubes on either side of the cross member, This allows the cross member to slide back on the tubes and line up with the 3550 trans mount. The T5 and 3550 both use a 10 spline clutch disk but the 3550 uses the same bell housing as the old SROD, My favorite option is the McLeod or FRPP bell which has both the T5 and 3550 bolt patterns.

the first gen of 3550 had 10 splines and the 2nd and 3rd gens had 26 spline input with 31 spline tail

You are 110% incorrect, All 3550s had 10 spline input and 28 spline output. The TKO and TKO2 had 26 spline input and 31 spline output.

If you dont agree then you need to visit TTCs website

Look at page 3, It proves what I have argued with you about now in two seperate threads. I have had both but currently have a 3550 in my 89, I dont fight with people unless they are way off base.

i called tremec and asked them when i got mine because it had a 3550 tag on the casing and it had 26 spline input and 31 spline output and he said that it was not a tko if it was in the housing of the 3550 and that the 94-95 i think the last two years they did them had the same internals as the tko just didnt have the good case that the tko had

3550 and TKO use the same case, The only oddball case was the early 3550 which did not have all the extra ribbing external for support. The early cases break next to the top mount ears, The newer case has the extra ribbing. You can convert a 3550 to a TKO which requires the TKO input(26 spline) and the mainshaft(31 spline). The tail housing changes to accomadate the larger O.D. of the 31 spline yoke, Or it can be machined to fit the 31 spline output yoke. The input and mainshaft size increase is what makes these transmissions different, The TR3550 is rated for 350Ft lbs Tq while the TKO is rated at 425. The Tremec part number for the TR3550 and TKO case is 2606106. Its the shaft size that changes the the Tq rating of these transmissions.

I posted the address of the TR3550/TKO service manual which is located on TTCs website(TTC is Tremec).

They built the TR3550 up until 2003 as well as the original TKO.

What he said just installed mine jan. right after christmas. The 3550 has a 10 spline input and 28 output calls for stock drive shaft unlike the tko. Good luck finding one man. Oh yeah alabama mustang had one sitting in the floor but needed to be rebuilt could give them a call man they are located in Dodge city close to cullman,al. Anyways good luck.
