This is a little different kind of "Snake" than usually found here on Streetstangs, but what the heck...at least it's a domestic :D

Got this car a few months back, it belongs to a good friend:

http://www.supernaturalturbo.com/viper/viper2.JPG
'99 Viper RT/10 / 8.0L (488cid) V10 / Aluminum block & heads.
1999 was the last year of Forged rotating group, and it has the same cam and driveline of the GTS. It is a good platform to start with.

I have been slowly gathering parts and deciding on options to increase the power a little beyond the stock 450rwhp figure. Will update when I can.

For starters, I have been waiting on a prototype fuel-pump hanger that has finally been produced. I should have it in about a week. Got to feed the beast more than a single 255lph pump can deliver.

(gas-tank had to be removed through the trunk...it is not a fun job :tlash: ...it sits behind the cabin, in front of and above the rear wheels)

Update? :jester:

coupe
08-05-2008, 08:28 PM
Yea. We had to cut turbos loose and move them outboard about 3 inches to clear inlet air filters and some other stuff. Wastegates are on. Exhaust is run to the back. Fuel lines are about 95% done. 60# injectors and regulator are installed. Only things left are install oil scavenge pump, install gas-tank back in car, hook up to the fuel lines, splice in the fuel-timing controller, plug in laptop, and "Fire."

Went through the options on this tonite:

Finally got the fuel system finished. Here you can see the triple-pump assembly installed, lines connected, the 3-to-1 fuel feed, and the Y-block feeding both rails. The lines go like this: three -6 into one -10 into two -8. Return is a -8. Pressure tested to 100psi and no leaks!!! (Triple 255's peg the pressure gauge fast!)

Dale McPeters
08-17-2008, 07:22 PM

Is that basket like the ones that you can now buy for the mustangs?

coupe
08-17-2008, 08:33 PM
I believe it is Dale. Rtusnake was mentioning one for the '03 Cobra.

I got the first one for viper. I had to drill and tap for a -8 return (it only had a -6) and I had to make some retainer screws/washers for the "vent tube" as it was not held in with anything other than an o-ring...did not want to have it come out!!! It is secure now. :nice:

You did a nice job on the vent tube. I did not pay any attention to the screw/washer retainers until you mentioned them.

Yea...thought about that after it was installed...but there really is plenty of room there for that big setup..so it will stay like that. I am going to put plastic loom over the stainless where it rubs up on anything...just to make it last. Already did that under the car and up into the tank area.

haha, that's usually how it goes, AFTER the fact, but shoot if you've got the room then by all means I wouldn't change it. Why spend an extra $25 bucks on fittings, those bastards are expensive (fittings in general that is).

Yea. This car has about $900 in lines and fittings.

Kevlar sleeve from work
That would be cool. Think you could sneak about 10-foot of it though? I need to cover the two -8 lines running up beside transmission to back of motor...and then a few small spots here and there.

The plastic stuff is sufficient...and the viper uses it on other places, so it's not entirely out of place.

Fired it off, and it started on first try!
Had to keep bringing fuel out becasue it was very rich. Then after letting it run, we discovered oil in the turbine housings...the scavenge pump is not keeping up with supply...so we are going to add another pump.

But only on the turbine side. :( We're getting a little oil in the compressor housings...:tlash:

turns out we're having a syphoning of oil out of the oil-galleys down the feeds into the top of the turbos after shutting car off! :banghead:

Easy fix though... checkball that opens with oil pressure only. Should be driving this thing this week/weekend!

Put the car on the road tonite with the wide-band on. We did some drivability tuning and everything's working nicely. Havent gotten it past "0" psi manifold pressure yet, but it's still pretty strong. :p

coupe
10-26-2008, 12:42 PM
The fall in torque and power is where we are basically "limiting" the ouput by pulling out some timing.

I never made a pass in the car because it's not mine. However, I can tell you that rolling into the boost at 70-80mph will send the tires up in smoke! It could be a wild ride if you wanted it to be. :D

Update on this car...

It was sold two weeks ago. :( Due to a busy business, he wasn't driving it as much so it sat in his shop and took up space. When someone asked if it was for sale, it wasn't a hard decision to say "yes." The rest is history... and a big bag of $100 bills.

Good new is my buddy had it for 2 years and never had one problem! He drove it whenever the weather was nice (winters suck up North) and even took the car from DesMoines (his home) to Chicago to visit his brother. :nice:
