Any bike riders have any experience with these? I am looking at the CL-14 model which is a full face helmet at $130. This will do double duty as my car/cart/motorcycle helmet. Suggestions on other inexpensive helmets would be appreciated too!

Do not buy a motorcycle helmet as it will not pass W2W standards, they are rated differently. Even though the M rated helmet is cheaper now, if/when you go to W2W you'll need to buy a SA rated helmet, and you'll have wasted the money on the M rated one.

I think the current SA rating is 00 or 05. Mine is a SA95 rated Bell. I think the helmets are good for 10 years.

I think the difference in the rating is that the M rating is for one major impact, where as the SA rating is for multiple impacts.

Be careful when selecting helmets because there is a difference between cycle helmets and actual race helmets. Some auto sanctions frown up on the use of cycle helmets.

Solo I and II allow M2000 ratings for helmets, but I just saw were SCCA was going to make a ruling of full face helmets for the 2005 season. It seems that using a full-face helmet in an air bag equipped car is a bad idea. Something about broken jaws and base skull fractures. :(

Guess I need to look at a SA rated Bell helmet.

Good thing I don't have airbags :D Jegs has pretty good prices on helmets, if you haven't looked there. That's where I bought my full face helmet.

You can also check with Butch at DRE. They are mainly a supplier for Formula V stuff, but he is a good friend, tell him I sent you if you call him.

MIne is a 7 5/8", I am not sure of the sizes how they go up. Perhaps by 1/8"? The Racer Wholesale site might have a sizing chart.

Craig has a valid point with W2W racing....however if you only plan to go to local small events then a cycle helmet works fine provided it is the correct rating(which new helmets would be). Now if you plan to run at Road Atlanta then you will need a proper spec'd helmet...but for autocross and places like talladega you don't.

I did a group purchase for helmets (Bell and other brand names) for the SVO Club a while back and could do it again if anyone is interested. I was getting new Bell Helmets at the time for under $100. I could check and see what the current offering is if there is interest.

Yes, they do vary a good bit in the sizes between manufacturers. The only way to know one will fit like it should is to try it on and see. I dont know if they make car helmets but there is a company named Vega that makes some pretty nice bike helmets at a good price.

Paul, according to when it is, I will be interested in at least one helmet, possibly two. Let me know if you get enough people together to make it worth your time.

It really doesn't matter to me if it's one person or 20.....I don't have to buy a certain number of them...it's just something one of my distributors offers so I can do it anytime.

I'll see if I can get a current list of offerings and see if there are any deals available. ;)

:yup:

Also, FWIW, SA05 wont be out until this Oct.

Paul, I'm interested in a Bell X15 full face. I need to find a shop that has them and figure my size first....
