On the 2.3's I just grab 1 gal coolant and 1 gal distilled water. I usually pour in the entire jug of coolant, then the jug of water. Might have a little water left over. I think SvoBrown is really close, because the book says 9.9 quarts. But you gotta take into consideration there's about a half gallon left in the block...unless you pop the water pump.

Well, there's your problem!:slap:

If you buy 50/50, then 2 gallons should get you by, but I would suggest 3 because coolant is always a good thing to keep handy.

because I just got the car in the spring didn`t know how good the coolant was in it so just to be on the safe side ....anywho...the neighbour checked it with his tester and it tested at -45 so now I have plenty of extra "top-up" coolant...and you were right 2 gallons did the trick ..thanks again don

I will but am still chasing gremlins....now the cooling fan doesn`t kick in no power at the fan plug ...so I`m trying to figure out whether its the ect sensor or the fan controller thats kaput....lol

The fan went dead on my wife's a while back. I think it's an in-line fuse...also a very common problem. I was lazy and just put in a toggle switch.

did you run it thru a relay and use the temp sensor to complete the ground loop...also when I was trying to figure out that a/c issue in the spring it seems the fan controller also controls the a/c cluth ...Brian

That...I do not know. Maggie's never had working a.c. on it. For the fan, I just ran off the starter sol. to a toggle switch mounted below the stereo. I'm running a 3-row radiator (that came from my 86) in it - so I almost never have to use the fan.

mine doesn`t get very hot even when driving and it is cool out now...but ...I just want to make sure its gonna work when the time comes I hooked it up with the neg going to the temp switch and ran a power right to the battery ,,it turns on but doesn`t turn off again ...lol

I suppose if you wanted an easy way out, you could just go to your local auto parts store and get an electric fan control setup.

don`t they need a spot to mount into the rad or do they use surface temp....Brian

The ones I've seen had a little probe that is placed in the fins of the radiator. Now, on my 86 - I was using a flex-a-lite controller which uses a surface temp pick-up and it kinda crushed some of the fins upon installation. I didn't llike that one bit.
