Solid roller cam.which is better cam bearing the durabond race or race coated bearing and will the coated bearing cause a the cam to be to tight?I have seen cam being to tight issues before.anyone had experience with these race coated?thx clyde

Whadya find out? I've never seen anyone coat the cam bearings...sounds interesting.

what i found out was most of the comp cam rollers are towards the tight side some even to much and several people with big engines found out the hard way after engine fired and run up to temperature and spit the cam bearings out.the coated bearings make things even tighter and the cam journals half to be polished in some instances.according to lem at bf racing engines and parts who i consider very good on big motors. durabond makes a wider but more clearanced race bearing uncoated that will work fine in a production block with more clearance.of coarse i will double check everything anyway. the coated bearings are still good bearings i just dont need to add more machine work right now.and i am not at a level for the roller needle bearings either at this time. besides the fact that i would need a danny be belt drive at $899 bucks the race and coated race bearing will suit me just fine with my gear drive.i had 3 choices so i took the one with least resistance that will still get the job done. he had them in stock to so all is well. yeeha! big blocks rule! even my mild build will kicks some cheby butt heres link where i got a response.http://www.460ford.com/viewtopic.php?t=33663

Well I used the uncoated race bearings and. It is to tight on rear bearing. With 2 different rollers guess got have a little more machine work. Just goes to show. There's a lot more to a good build than buying parts. Check and recheck everything.

Its combination of cams not being exactly straight and some cam bores being a little tight. Also knocking bearings in with a tight journal can create tightness where as pulling them in is better its not a hard fix just one of. The quirks of. Older blocks and newer technology.I just don't want to have to go back in the engine or miss something simple that can cause havoc.it turns but stiff with mild spring pressures would prob be fine but for my application and heavy spring pressure of the solid roller I don't want to leave it on a chance that it will or will not be fine.lol I will stop blabn now.
