I know i'm going with the AFR'S. Just wondering if i should get the 165s or 185s. Have a buddy who has the 185s and the car runs great and it's a stock 302. But i was wondering what you all would go with if it was your car?:dunno: Also my mods are in my sign. Just a stock 302 with bolt ons.

This is what I run on my car. I like to think of it as growing room for a stroker or hair dryer in the future.

The 165s are probably more ideal for a street car and will make plenty of power.

The 58cc will give it a little more compression right? And i plan on spraying the car 150 shot or so. What kinda #'s do you think it will put to the tire?

stock 302 pistons will have to be fly cut for the 185 head not the 165....something to think about

If you use the right cam you can get away without clearing them:D

But he is right

For what you have, the 165cc heads are more than enough...and they're a great "small-port" head; probably the best. Your chances of finding them for a really good deal are higher than for the 185's too, becasue they seem to be more popular.

+1
They also wont have the P/V clearance issues that the 185s will have with stock pistons.

What about the dss short skirt pistons with the 185 head would that work? And have no issues with the clearance?

clearance is about the valve size, life and duration, more the duration than lift, but its all in how much valve relief the piston has, how big the valve is and how long/far the valve opens

If its a DSS Piston it should be cleared for a 2.02 valve and be fine

185s should work with a B cam and will give you room to grow. Any aftermarket head will be better than the stock head, so you can't go wrong either way.

Keep in mind, AFR is not the only good cylinder head out there...

BAD INT's heads might be a good option for you... :yup:
I also know of a really clean pair of Twisted Wedges including rockers for a sweet deal.

I agree, For instance the newer design Edelbrock heads support good power and the twisties work good as well. Leave your options open and get something that doesn't break the bank but will make good power.

For a CNC head (expensive process), they are a good deal, yes. But so is an as-cast TFS Highport...at only 190cc. For the money, I'd put it up against an AFR185 (and maybe even a 205) any day.

A TFS will make an AFR'S ass hurt
