View Full Version : Does this sound normal for Cobra 1.7's?

I know roller rockers are a little noisy, but when I first crank it up,it sounds like a damn 7.3 Powerstroke. After a couple of minutes, they quiet down. I did'nt need to shim them,in fact, I'm thinking my pushrods might be a bit on the short side. I hit 22 ft lbs of torque after 1/4 turn of pre-load. Watch the clip, and tell me if these sound normal....

how would your pushrods be short? Did you not use stock length puchrods?

If they quieten down after running for a bit, then there is a oiling issue somewhere or your lifters are weak

They're stock 6.25"

I was thinking that as well. I know a couple of them had to pump up when I built the engine, and primed it before they got the pr's tight.

Were they new lifters?

sounds fine in the vid to me.. They're making noise, but it sounds about like a 1.7 should sound on an already pretty aggressive cam lobe. My 1.6 Pro-Magnum rockers are noisy too...have about 60,000 miles on them. I say run it.

:nice: Yeah, plus having thin steel valve covers helps to amplify the sound. It's a noticeable difference across the powerband now though....

....now that it's running on all eight cylinders!:D

Every set of 1.7s ive ran or heard have been noisy

My 1.6 Scorpions with an FTI cam sounds very similar.

Ed has a disclaimer on the cam card though....the cam will have a very mechanical sound because of the aggressive grind. I readjusted 2 or 3 times when we first got it going and chalked it up to the mechanical sound.

yeah mine were the same way on my last two anderson cams. sounded like two squirrels having a walnut battle under the valve covers.

My stock 1.7's were never noisy though. Of course the only cams that they ever beat up against was a 'b' cam in my car and a 'e' cam in PWT

My old setup with stock cam & Crane 1.7's was pretty noisy. I put in a "B" cam & used SVO 1.6's and it doesn't make half as much noise. Of course I used new lifters... :poke: :D

Mystery solved. #4,and #2 exhaust rockers were loose. How the hell that happened,I don't know . It was 1-2 am when I finished though, probably overlooked them from being tired.
