My 96 GT ( stock w/ exception of Mac pro-chamber and flows) Is throwing a EGR code. Not sure if its for the EGR itself or a related sensor.

Anyway, a buddy of mine has a 98 GT, and he said his did the same thing, so he just put a EGR block plate on it and i guess deleted the EGR.

My question is, what exactly does the EGR do? is it just emissions shit? What if i just unplugged it? I really dont want to buy the 100 dollar EGR, or its 60 dollar sensor if it just some bullshit emissions part

Yeah it just mixes some exhaust gases on startup back into the intake to help with emissions. I have mine deleted on just about everything. Cleans up the engine bay

I blocked mine off as well on the 2.3T. Could not tell any different.

May take alittle off gas mileage but doesn't affect the performance

do you need a block off plate? or could you just disconnect the tube and sensor?

You can cut the tube and weld it. Best way to do it, is to get the plate and you will need to cap it off on the manifold as well. Ford sells the block plate

No, you will have to get it turned off in a tune

The EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Removing, disconnecting or blocking off won't affect hp or torque. With the EGR not operating you will see a slight decrease in fuel economy. Disconnecting, blocking or removing will require a tune to make the computer happy-j

My buddy has a dyno and tuning software at his shop now, so i can have that set up and all. i'd rather do away with it and pay more to have it tuned than it'd cost to replace the EGR, just gets rid of something else i dont need
