This is a little project we've been working on for a good friend (and one of the reasons mine is still in pieces). This car was procharged as of a year ago (~525rwhp) but the tune was never quite right and he hurt a couple piston ringlands. Decided to ditch the blower and MAF meter in favor of a turbocharged setup and a FAST ECU.

SPECS are as follows:
347 Boss Block (forged crank, rods, pistons)
T56 6speed transmission
Built rearend with megabite control arms
Cobra front brakes with UPR tubular Kmember, A-arms, and coilovers.
GTQ76 turbocharger with all stainless piping and front-mount intercooler
FAST xfi with traction-control add-on (we'll see how that does. lol)
Aeromotive fuel-system with sumped tank and "large" injectors.

Plan on seeing this car at our next track day...it is THE CLEANEST mustang I have ever seen. Inside, outside, underneath, everywhere! He is the original owner and it has around 40k miles.

Very Nice Ride...I would remove the huge wing though. Hey Matt, my brother gave me a turbo from a scrap operation he was working for last summer. It's a Garrett M10 .50 A/R A/C. I thinks thats the same as a T3...in other words too small for a mustang. What size motor would it work on?

80lb/hr injector in high-impedence? I knew there were 60's and 65's but never an 80. That would require a rather powerful injector driver and I wonder how quickly they would respond in the "upper range" of the duty cycle? Maybe they have a very low-mass pintle or disk valve? Injectors have come a long way in the last few years.

Ford racing makes 80lb injectors now. Thats what they put in the cobra jet. I have some for my car

Been a few weeks...started tuning yet?

coupe
08-13-2009, 09:16 PM
Haven't tuned anything yet for 2 reasons.

1)There was some oil leaking under the car...chased it down to a bad oil-pan gasket seal right on the back corner. Fixed that this week.

2)We helped him turbocharge his wife's Lexus IS300 (he bought a partial kit). We had to troubleshoot some issue with response and narrowed it down to a very restrictive intercooler. Installed a better one and it made 285rwhp at only 5psi. :metal:

We'll get to the SN95 real soon. It will be at track day. :nice:

Tell him that the charger patrol car that flashed his headlights at him in Argo this evening was just saying hi. :D Does he live on this side of town?? Wish I could have caught him at a gas station or something to check it out. It looked even better in person! :chug:

Either he's installed hydraulics and was hitting the switches when he went by or that thing rides like a wagon!! Man! It was doing some bouncing.

coupe
08-31-2009, 10:06 PM
He has some very still coilovers and I too think it's too low... you should have felt it before I got to the front...they were not installed correctly, no spacers between the coilover tops and the caster/camber plates... it wouldn't budge and wouldn't steer either!

He lives in the Argo area, yes. Brad... pull him over next time and tell him I said to do it! :D His name's Tony Metcalf and he's as good as they get. :nice:

Update on this car: He has put a couple hundred miles on it... everything flawless...

until...

He was driving down 280 last week and started to get a popping and misfiring. All gauges were fine so he coasted it to a stop. After hauling it to a friend's shop, they found it severly out of time for some reason. Pulled the distributor and found that it had chewed the gear off the cam! The distributor gear was fine...which is unusual becasue it is usually the sacrificial piece here... Not sure if it had to do with an oil pump problem or incompatible gear hardness yet... Hasn't been pulled apart to see the real extent of the damage either. He is not happy to say the least. It will be down for a little while.

So what happened Matt did he ever get it back up and running?

coupe
04-20-2010, 07:36 AM
Not yet; he went through the motor just to be safe. Everything fine and going back together. Went with a different cam from cam-motion and their recommended distributor gear. It had to be a compatability issue is all.

Yep it was a compatibility issue. I am glad he rebuilt the motor though as there is no telling how many metal shavings ended up going through the engine....

I know Tony, he is an awesome guy his car is sick! As far as clean goes you will never find a cleaner sn-95. Have not seen it since he pulled the procharger. He's not the only turbo stang in the argo area to worry about.
