There is a guy at work who is selling his x-cal 2 from his 06-07 auto GT. It has 3 Bama chip tunes in it.

Are you able to use this on any S197 or do you have to buy tunes specific to your car?

Every used hand held I have used you have to return the tune to stock on the previous car before you can use it on yours. The tuner is locked to the current car. Can't use the tunes either

That is about what I was thinking, with the S197 Ford starting matching specific no. to the car to cut down on warranty claims after tunes had been set on cars. Therefore after a service job they would reset the computer to a different no. causing you tune to send a different no. and causing the car not to start. Hoping you would call ford to get them to reset the car so they could void your warranty. LOL. But the guy at Bama chips was able to get various codes to solve that problem last I heard.

I knew that...

That is what I wanted to know. So how is the tuner unlocked? He mentioned that there was a manual that came with it that mentioned something about 'wiping it clean'

Don't know yet. Once he tells me a price I will put in the F/S area of the forums. I can't afford to buy gas let alone buy mods for the car

FOR THE X2 9400 AND THE SF 9415:

* Power up the device by plugging in to either a vehicle's OBDII port or a computer's USB port. (usb cable not included)
* Once powered up, scroll all the way down to device info.
* Press select, this will display firmware version and serial number.
* Press select again, and this will display the Tuner Status.
* NOTE: If it does not take you to the Tuner Status Window, and instead kicks you back to the Device Info Screen, Your Firmware is Old and will Need to be Updated to check the status. There is an FAQ section for this. Status will either be: Stat=Stock, Stat=Aftermarket, or Stat=Unused.

*This is the breakdown of what each one means:*
* Stat=Stock - Your tuner is half locked, but fixable. Go the the tech support page, select the Ford Xcalibrator 2 in the first drop down, select Device Update Software in the second drop down and hit Search. Download Liveload 3 by clicking the "Click Here to Download" next to it. Install this application, once installed open it up, plug in the X2. The program asks the X2 to be on the main menu. Program Vehicle is the main menu of the X2s. Press the unlock button within the liveload application. This will change the status to Unused and the tuner will then be ready to tune a new vehicle.

* Stat=Aftermarket - The vehicle is VIN locked, you need to either return the vehicle it is currently locked to back to stock, or you will need to call Tech Support and Get a Return Authorization and pay an Unlocking Fee.

* Stat=Unused - Your tuner is not locked, go tune.

If you are attempting to program a vehicle, and you receive the error: "Wrong Vehicle".
This means that the VIN stored on the tuner does not match the VIN of the vehicle.

Yeap he just has to return his car back to the stock tune before getting rid of it
