How does a girdle work if it doesn't even touch the caps?

The current girdle systems available for our engines, do not even touch the maincaps. It gives the caps NO support what so ever. These motors are 4bolt main with 2 side screws, so the caps don't walk too much. Tymensky (Mike I believe) even reported that with his power level, bigbore and 9500rpms, they've not seen a need for them as well. MHO, all the girdle does is add $400 to the cost of building your motor, and puts the oil 1/2" further away from the pickup. ;)

Thanks guys! I'm starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel now. :metal:

natedawgg, it's a single 60mm intercooled kit. I had planned to put it on the stocker, so a 60mm was gonna be plenty. I wish I had gone with a 66 now, in light of the heavy breathing motor build. Oh well, I think the 60 will hold it's own though. :)

Yeah, I think it will be alright for what I want. I've just heard from several people that the amount of air the motor is gonna be making(i.e.-heads, intake) that the 60 will peter out on the big end.

I should hope that with the extra displacement and turbo that Brad's car will make significantly more power than mine with a supercharger.

:stupid: But when it comes to best ET, I think it'll be fairly close. The QWKSNKE is quite a bit lighter than the banana, and the banana is riding on BFG DRs, not Quick Time Pros.

:bowrofl: This is kills me. You'll be making a bazillion HP and bazillion ft-lbs of TQ (actual ANSI ratings) and your worried about the big end? I think it will be wicked fast no matter what you put on there!

:burnout:

Well, it's all about efficiency. If you have this type set-up, why negate it by actually losing horsepower down the track. Because the 60 will stop making power. A 66 or better would continue pulling. :D

I'm just gonna stick with the 60, because it should be plenty for what I want. But if I see the need, I'll upgrade to the 66 but no higher.

Yeah.......before it's gonna be like most turbo cars........dyno queen. Before you know it you'll be thinking, "hey I can make another hundred unusable horse power with just a little bigger turbo, or maybe I can get into the four digit numbers......."

UPDATE:

Started mocking up the turbo kit to make what few cuts have to be made. Then out comes the rest of the stocker, freshen up the engine bay, drop in the K-member and 331, and then the final turbo install. :metal:

I doubt it. The first time it spools up, his eyes are going to close from the big ass grin he has on his face. :jester:

speaking from my first time I saw 10-11 psi in the 93.....

*stab it to the floor in 3rd and 4th on the highway
* achieved triple digit mph very very quickly and let off throttle.
* Started breathing again
* Driver (me) and co-pilot (Italian LX) muttered at least 3 curse words each. Which started with the curse word shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit in stereo
* Both of us grinned so hard on the way back home (a few minutes away) until our cheeks were cramping when we pulled in the driveway and shut the car off.

Been severly addicted to boost ever since :D

QWKSNKE
05-17-2005, 09:21 PM
oh yeah there was at least 4 curse words each when 14 psi was acheived. And yes there is a big difference between 10-11 psi and 14psi. feels like the car is going to lift off the pavement :metal:
