Traded for this car yesterday. I will admit that I do not know a whole lot about them, but I am reading as much as quickly as I can. Plans are to get some body work done to the car, and have Matt check her over. I think it may need some tuning.
First impressions - fun car to drive with a good bit of potential.
Mods - from ad
Turbonetics stage 3 turbo, Kenne Bell headers, down pipe, exaust, Spearco FMIC, MSD 50# injectors, MAFT, GNX coil pack, Taylor spark plug wires, Methanol injection kit, Greedy boost controler, knock gauge, GNX dash gauges, cold air intake, intercooler hard pipe kit, camshaft
Pics - again from ad

I like those cars. They really look good lowered a little with a nice set of wheels. :nice:
Skillet had one, too, so he may be able to help you out.

85 is a hot air car. Not as much potential or as popular as the 86-87 cars. With the added intercooler, alky kit, and upgraded turbo it's probably a fun car. They were rated at 200hp/300tq from the factory. Not too many people hot rodding the 84/85 but I couldn't really tell you why. That's a pretty rare car even if it isn't super valuable.

I think my car needs some tuning, or tweaking. It is fun, but I am not sure if everything is working correctly. What happened to yours?

I sold mine. It got to where I had put so much stuff on it I couldn't keep a transmission in it.
http://turbotweak.com/ is a good place to get a chip from.
A scanmaster is a must with these cars but I don't see one for the 84/85 cars. The laptop software might still work.

Great cars, lots of fun. Change the color. Good Luck with the project.

I have a scanmaster, and a turbo timer - now I just have to learn what they do. :jester:

Here is the manual. It tells you what the codes are as well as the range for each parameter. http://www.fullthrottletech.com/showthread.php?t=1488

I really want to go out today and test the car in a parking lot or deserted road. But, yesterday, after driving 60 or so miles on the interstate (fine), the temp gauge started to worry me when sitting in traffic.

Don't raw-hide it just yet Spencer. We'll take a look and make sure it's in good running order. We have some spare 86-87 intercooled stuff to that might be an option and nice upgrade.
And if my memory serves me right, you do not want to change that color. I'm pretty sure it's a rare car.
EDIT:
Judging by the pics, it looks as if it's had an intercooler added somehow...

I am gonna bring it to you before I try to do a wheelie in it. :) It does have a little (based on a PS IC) IC in-between the fan and the engine. I just can not figure how it could get hot with an IC and alcohol injection.

To do it right you have to do the wheelie then slide sideways under an exploding gas truck like in Fast and Furious.

Damn, quit giving away my ideas. Now I have to one-up that idea. :jester:

I personally like those and they have tons of potential. I have had my but handed to me a few times by one of those in street trim. Nice!

Way cool. I have always loved those cars. Just like most the head gaskets are the weak area. If its running good and cool. It will be a joy to own.

Took the car to Reed last weekend. He said it looks good, but it would be a couple weeks until he could get it into his shop and do some tuning.
Gives me time to get the body work I need done.
