The wife's cobra has been parked for awhile. Got it out today to take the kid to school and noticed that there are some odd squeaks coming from the from the right rear. Seems rotation related as the more speed you get up the more prominent the noises are.

Could this be a halfshaft? If I remember correctly, there were some odd bumps/knocks coming from that area the night we parked it a couple of months ago.

check to see if your bearings have play in them the cant be packed guess thats why they r so cheap but they have to be pressed in and out already replaced mine not even 50,000 mile but o'rielys has them. my right side was bad i just did both sides.

on the irs the hub(the part that has the lug studs) it presses into the bearing those have any slack jack it up and see if you get any play in the wheel moving! i found mine while changing my street tires to my drag radials.

I had the same issue in my BMW last Fall. I went ahead and replaced both sides while I was at it. The learning curve on the first side was a bit steep, but I was able to knock out the other side pretty quickly.

If they are anything alike, I can probably help you out if you want to change it youself, Lee.

I agree, this is most likely the culprit. The factory bearings
on the hub kinda suck.

Or you could just swap out the IRS for a solid axle, I tell you what I will give you the privilage of swapping it with the stick axle in my '95 Cobra, I won't even charge you.....

:(. I hope it is ok to drive. No money to put fuel in the truck and I have to work tonight. I am going to go ahead and creep to work in it tonight and cover the car back up when I get home

Sucks to be to broke to buy diesel :jester:

If it's just the bearing and it hasn't been making the noise for long, you'll likely be fine to put a few more miles on it.

I drove the BMW enough to ruin my hub. . . but I also put over 5,000 interstate miles on it after I started noticing the noise. :D

yea it ate the right hub up on mine and the tires as well not like it will fall off! but they have to be pressed off and on and the hub at the ford dealer was alot dont remember the exact price, but they sell the front for like 49.00 at the parts store but not the rear.

Does it sound like metal on metal ( like stuck caliper piston) or a thump, thump, thump? Cruise on down to Odenville, see the shop and we can put the car on the lift.

I missed some key info in this thread earlier when I posted. Hub assy makes sense. I will have to price them when I go back to the store and work on Saturday.

Travis, when I have the money to get this done we may make some arrangements for me to come down :nice:

Let me know when you come down, and I'll ride over and BS with you for a while (I'd offer to help, but I'm pretty much useless :jester:). His shop is about 5-6 miles from my house.

My comment was not directed at you Robbie. I came in, quickly read what had been posted and went back to work without letting everything soak in. Then when I got to work that night at the other job, I wasn't sure what I need to look up

Got everything disassembled Saturday. Stil unable to get the bearing out. Spindle/hub is currently sitting in the press at Italians with a little pressure and a whole lot of PB Blaster in it

........ maybe a BFH will help....:jester: (j/k)

I know what you mean about working all the time....I have been working 7 days a week for the past couple of months and it really effects the play/free time.

I have had a trickle charger on the cobra and the motorcycle this whole time. I hope the tires are not stuck to the shop floor....:jester:
