GOT HER FIXED!! She is a mass air car now. Ok, long story short. Got a 88 5.0 5 speed car that everybody in the world has worked on. Owner said it stop firing. It is firing and has 40 psi at fuel rail. It has power at the injectors. The computer, distributor, pick up, fuel relay, fuel pump, wires, plugs, fuel injectors, fuel injector harness, switch, fuel pump, have all been replaced. It has about 100 TO 120 compression on each cyclinder. It is in time and the wiring is correct... Some times it will start and run for about 5 seconds and it hits while it is turning over. WTF is wrong with this POS?

More details... does it prime the fuel pump for a couple seconds when you turn the key? Then when it does fire, is the pump still running? You said you put a new computer... but was it really new, or just a junkyard one? Computer was my first thought.

Have you checked for 5v reference on all the sensors and checked the EEC relay?

check the ground from the battery to the computer/ body ground its the one next to the battery it is a round shaped plug i had a similar problem and that was all it was!

It does prime. The pump runs when the car fires and it keeps 40 psi. It is a reman computer. I also took one from a running car and tried it.

Have checked the 5v but have not changed the EEC relay. I was told it had been changed. I will try another one.

Grounds have been checked and they all are hooked up.

Jerome, Have you removed the front cover to make sure that the timing sprockets are where they should be?

By the way, since it is giving you so many problems.. I will give you $50 for it :D

Nope thats the only thing that i have not done. I guess it won't hurt.

Considering, you have done all of the electrical checks, it has to be something mechanical

Sounds lime it's time to clean the injectors, drain the tank
and put fresh fuel in then.

SlowJoe

swapped injectors yet? so you know its in the fuel.

I've done all of that. I replaced the injectors, pump etc.

i would have to go after the injector harness.

went back and read org post!! try and bleed the fuel rail off then try to start it.

I would assume the wires were ohm metered and double check. Usually when all has been checked and don't get fixed I start back over at the simplest. I have bought new wires and them be bad. Any other part for that matter

I would also check the 12volt wire from ignition switch to coil while u r turning it over to make sure it is maintaining voltage and has full voltage. Those stangs r notorious for faulty ignitions switches. I had a 4 banger that was doing that exact thing. Lol good luck

Did you check if it was firing at the plugs... or just at the coil?
Is the oil pump driveshaft intact?
What is your TPS voltage with the throttle closed?

When it fires up, does it run rich and pop back through the intake? If it does, check the MAP sensor.

Yeah....

We assume the car is speed density instead of mass air?

stangman

It is speed density.

Come on E! I thought a mass air would do better! lol Its SD.

Throw all that fuel injection crap in the garbage and put on a carb with a MSD 6AL!!!

did you pull the dizzy out, check the gear, realign the dizzy at number one cyclinder and make sure that #1 cylinder is at top dead center with timing mark on balancer at 0 degrees?

Is the battery good, good cables and connections on them too (I am sure you have checked).

Any major vacuum leaks?

New distributor and pick up. Distributor (the old one and new one) is in with # 1 up and at 0.

Not that this is the problem but when I install a dizzy, I put it
TDC compression stroke on #1 go to zero and then back it up
to 10 before TDC and they always crank with no adjustment
needed.

SlowJoe
02-24-2010, 06:33 AM
it should drop fuel psi while starting right?

Are you sure it was dropped in at the top of the commpression stroke?
