View Full Version : Lincoln LS...with a twist

A SUPERCHARGED twist!

This is SPEC's latest project. A 2001 Lincoln LS.

What started as a V6 5-speed car (for the pedals) now sports a 4.6L DOHC blown mill by Sean Hyland. Vortech's YSI Renegade blower forces air into the Ford GT upper-end and everything is harnessed to the pavement through a Built TKO600, SPEC Supertwin clutch, and a custom Ford 9" rearend.

Suspension and fuel-cell work was done by a shop in Atlanta that builds NASCAR stuff and the body and paint were done by Goolsby Customs (http://goolsbycustoms.com/) here in Bessemer. The custom dash is by Dakota Digital (http://www.dakotadigital.com/) and it is unbelievable!

Credit for getting everything wrapped up and ready for tuning goes to Danny Smith, of SPEC Clutch. He wired in the Bigstuff3, harnesses, dash, etc.. and did a fine job. For those who may not know Danny, he races an outlaw frontwheel drive Honda Civic to the tune of 9.40s at over 160mph.

Car was run in and tuned at Balanced Performance by Ed Stenf this week. With some belt slippage above 17psi, they managed to make a 19psi pull to a respectable 745rwhp and 590 ftlbs torque. Should be a handfull on the highway. LOL.

Anyway, look for it at this weekend's NMRA race in Commerce and possibly a few more races/shows that we SPEC will attend this year.

I thought that was going to be a turbo car. Or am I thinking of a different build? Either way looks sharp! Bring it to the charity dyno?

Shouldda been turbo yes, but when you get an S/C like that for next to nothing, you use it.

Kerry, yes this is the same car; it started out silver. Then he had this idea of a sinister black look and went with it. I like the premise behind the car...it was originally going to be a "sleeper" with same engine combo. Now with wide fenders, huge tires, and very loud exhaust, it's not my cup of tea. Ricer comes to mind, but not quite. Believe it or not, the S/C is not that loud on idle.

Skillet, go ahead and email David. I am not really involved with the car much...but I'm sure he would do it. :nice:

i like everything but the digital dashNo other choice. The OE dash cluster has its own computer and interfaces with factory Jaguar sensors (it was a Jag V6).

From purchase of the running V6 car to now... I think it was about 3 years. But it sat in various states here and there waiting on engine, ECU, alot of custom stuff.

I probably wouldn't mind the wide fenders if it were a 2 door... but it just doesn't work on a 4 door.

Matt who did the fender flares?
And is it steel or fiberglass?

My buddy Jonathan Goolsby of Goolsby customs did the body work. I saw it last year when he repainted my 03.

Matt who did the fender flares?
The flares were custom made. Goolsby fit everything together.

And is it steel or fiberglass?neither.

They're carbon fiber. You can just make out the weave when you look at the paint (which is pretty much flawless since Goolsby did it). With temperature changes, the carbon fiber can be very apparent, or barely noticable. It's really interesting.
Back bumper, hood, fender flares are all CF.

Here's a couple pics from a SPEC meet this weekend:

(edit: Yes, that's me questioning the stability of a plastic broom handle hood-prop. Guess the hood struts aren't compatible with the CF hood. LOL.)

All that work and all that money...but it has a broom handle for a hood prop?

All that work and all that money...but it has a broom handle for a hood prop? I don't think it's permanent... the car was just "finished" last week. A few odds and ends need to be tied up.

The broom serves dual purpose...Hood prop....and cleanup for when the motor comes apart:D

Interesting thing is there has already been an offer made for the car. A big offer.

Car is at HotRod Power Tour today over at Region's Park in Hoover. They're gonna try to drive the last leg of the tour in it tomorrow to Mobile.

If any of you have never been to a HotRod Power Tour stop, you should go and check out some of the cars... only there today (and tonite). Probably cruising around Hoover.

Do you still have know location of three donor cars? I am looking for one with the 5spd if possible, want to put a new Ford Coyote 5.0 in it with a Tremec, have a bid on the flares from the same Goolies customs.

hey are you the owner of the lincoln if so i need the info on the swap as far as the engine 850-292-9362 or willsmurf47@yahoo.com

coupe
02-13-2011, 04:36 PM
Nope. Call SPEC Clutch. David is the owner.

Swap was all custom. There's nothing you can buy off the shelf for any of it to fit, so you need someone who can fabricate anything and everything.
In other words, get your wallet out.

The LS is cheap if you want to get one. Just look around. And for the power that engine is putting to the wheels. It had to have more than just motor mounts to keep it out of the ditches.

The Lincoln LS has taken a new direction... one that should make better use of the 1000hp+ capable engine, driveline, fuel system, and ECU.

Here's how she sits as of today:
