Will deleting my smog pump give me a bit better gas mileage?

Right now,mine is pure shit...............

I did not gain any by deleting mine when I had my 89. Only gain would be from reducing parasitic losses, negligible.

Richard there has to be something wrong with the tune on the car. Before I started modding mine I drove it to Orange Beach and got 27mpg that equaled over 330 mile on a tank of gas. Even now I will get around 260 miles on a tank of highway driving and around 220 of city driving. And I have an untuned 30# injector setup.

Richard, have you had the tranny rebuilt yet? The car got good gas mileage when I had it. Its either the tranny robbing excess power or its that P.O.S. C&L meter.

Didnt know it had a C&L meter on it. You need to make sure that you have the right sample tube in there for your year car. Yes they are different sample tube for 87-93 and 94-95 cars.

yeah it has the sn95 (5.0) 76mm tru-flow kit on it

tranny has not been done as of yet.Hopefully before FFW.

New plugs cap and button and oil change.

I thought because the smog pump was going bad, might be the cause of gas mileage going South.

Gonna get a new CAI within the nest week or so and maybe that will help.

I would replace the oxygen sensors, coolant temp sensor, and have the throttle position sensor set or checked. Those are huge factors in the gas mileage...especially 02 sensors.

I think he's refering to the fact that the pump is bad and may be causing more parasitic drag than a good one.

Just to clarify, he is refering to the coolant sensor that is located on the heater hardline (not the one in the lower intake). :nice:

its already been replaced :nice:

02 sensors do need replacing on it which I believe I told Richard in our prior discussions

Lee.......if the O2 sensors were not working properly, wouldn't it show up when I pulled the codes?

I still plan on replacing them, but figgered they were not too bad at the moment since the codes didn't show.

What about EGR valve.......could that be a factor?....that did show up when I pulled the codes.

they should show up. It the 02 code showed for me when I scanned it last fall

stuck open EGR: yes; that could affect it. :yup:

Could that also have an effect on starting, immediately going dead and when restarted, having to feather the gas to keep it running?

That normally clears up after a few minutes.

That sounds more like an IAC motor.

The TPS is not adjustable on the 94-95, just for future reference.

you can't drill it like one for a fox?

I'm sure you could but it is a bitch to get to the screws to adjust it if you did slot one of them.

How is that any different than a fox Mustang?

On a side note, the Professional Products throttle bodies have an adjusting bracket that makes tweeking the TPS voltage a lot easier... a nice feature on a very nice and inexpensive unit. :nice:

Because the Iac on 94-95's are on the side of the throttle body and they way the intake is made it puts it in a wierd position to get to it.

Are you sure TPS not adjustable on the 94' :jester: If not then what is the adjustment on the side behind the little rubber plug????? If i remember correctly its a 1/16th allen head or 5/64th....... :pimp:

That is the Idle Air Control adjustment.

94-95 eecIV mustangs have no requirement to adjust tps as in a fox, because it is calibrated during each start up(zeroed out). If you do adjust it too far it could affect its calibrating process. This feature is not in fox eecIVs. This has been reviewed many times in the tweecer forums.
