Now do you have to get retrofit lifters if you make a non roller 351 a roller..Can you not just use 302 lifters and spider and use any roller cam.I have heard you have to get the retrofit lifters...just want to be sure....

The non roller block does not have the machined groove for the dog bone that holds the lifters down in a roller block. I think you either have to use the retrofit lifters or pay for a lot of machine work. But I could be wrong.

you can use 302 roller lifters but u have to run a small base circle cam then order a custom lenght push rod

How would you keep them from rotating?
Why the need for a small base circle cam?

Not following you here :think:

rotating= dogbones and spider
smallbase circle to lower the lifter in the bore so they get oil

The non roller block is not machined for the spider and dog bones so how would he use them?

just like a roller block. All the dog bones have to do is keep the lifter from turning. and the spider keeps the bones held down. Or never mind what i have said and buy you a set of retrofit lifters its actually about the same price if you already have a cam. It does a will work have seen several 302 and 351w done like this.

I think what Marc is saying is that you can just tap the block for the spider and the tension from it along with the two lifters working together will keep the dogbones in place.

The small base circle cams are high if u can find one. just buy the good lifters and be done with it.

I have never seen it done that way, not saying it won't work. As far as the cam goes, that was a brain fart

so because the block isnt machined for the bones, the lifters will not go low enough to get oiled properly the bones and spider hold them up higher b/c of the block not being flat is that right...

so you cant use 302 lifters and regular roller cam.....if you did would longer rods fix it?

Or you have to get the retrofits to make it work properly....

I got totally confused..Ive heard of people doing that and far as I know it worked fine.....lol
