Ford changed the inner pinion bearing design in 2010 GT's.

So, if you happen to do any gear installations like I did today, order a pinion bearing first as they are not readily available at your local parts stores.

Also from what I have researched tonight, this bearing is a lot more expensive than the bearing that came in 8.8's from 85-09

After further research this may have been borrowed from the GT500. It appears they use a similar style bearing since their introduction.

It is actually shorter with more taper. I will try and remember to take pics when we get the new one. The original was destroyed during removal of it from the pinion to get to the original pinion shim to put on the new pinion.

Although I am not 100% certain it is the same, it 'appears' that all GT500's, special edtion 08 GT's and the '10-'11 cars have this same bearing. I have also read where Ford has propreitary rights to it and Timken/Koyo can only manufacture it for Ford.

I have also read where you can run the standard 8.8 pinion bearing but obviously you have to change the race as well. Which is usually a pain in the ass. This new style bearing is also shimmed in the housing since the housing is cast to take the old style bearing

Oh yeah.. Old style bearing $15 New style is $50

Sounds like I would be knocking a race out to save $35 lol

According to the dealership, the mustang 8.8 went to this bearing in Feb 09. And it is the same as the GT500
