i think i am about to get one..the motor i have has been bored 30 over..(its a 5.0) it already has crane rollers and springs, so i think it has a aftermarket cam but not sure, I just love the way the 303 sounds.

Need a little more info. What heads and intake are on it for one, and any other mods that you know of.

What year is the car and engine? And is it auto or manual tranny?

its an 87 notch and the motor is not original to the car..came with a 4cyl i bought the car from the guy the way it is but i have torn it apart trying to fix all the "rigged" stuff. trying to make it right.. it a manual "t5" just rebuilt with ford racing internals.. and feels like a 4.10 rear gear

When you can, get the casting number off the block. It'll be by the starter mount and will be something like E7TE, E5AE, etc. We need to at least know that to see if it's a roller cam block or not.

FWIW I won't run another alphabet cam. I spent an extra $50 on my Anderson Ford Motorsport cam and got something much more suited to my combination. I would suggest giving them a call. Just my .02 :nice:

+1 not to much on the e cam!

The E303 was targeted towards automatics more so than the B303. Seems like higher lift but shorter duration than the B??

Less lobe seperation also for less chop.

Less lobe separation would increase overlap and make more "chop"

Just saying that the e cam has less lobe seperation than the b cam.

Yep. E303 has 220* duration @ .050" with .498 lift, and the B303 has 224* duration @ .050" with .480 lift. I'm about to swap out my E for a B as soon as I get the time and motivation to do it.

:agree: BUT, you can pick up used letter cams all day for $100+/-. I'm probably going with an AFM cam on my next build if I can ever build up the funds for it.:(

AMEN! I liked the 2 different cams I owned so much for the old cobra, I already have one of their cams picked out for the 08 :D

True, but I assure you, you will not see the power gains to make it worth the labor of swapping. While a 'B' cammed car is usually stronger than an 'E' cammed car, neither are worth the costs and labor for swapping one for the other..

If the OP's car has a stock pre-87 rotating assy, I would not put any aftermarket cam in it as they did not have valve reliefs cut in the pistons from the OEM

Agreed on all accounts (except my cam swap, since I've got everything just laying around to do it:D). But I don't know what his budget is:shrug: I may sell both of mine and go with an AFM stick. They don't seem all expensive after pricing cams for the truck.

If it's been bored .030", they aren't OEM pistons. :jester:

Wasn't there something about the early model heads too?

Yep, the E5AE and E6AE heads had those heart shaped chambers, which shrouded the crap out of the valves. The valves were a lot smaller than the E7's too. They're good for about $15 at the scrap metal place on a good day.

I think you are missing some info on the head and casting numbers.

The roller rockers are 93-95 OEM cobra 1.7's

Yep. Those casting numbers don't sound familiar, at least not the one on the block. Ford's casting numbers always start with a letter, those may have been check numbers or something like that. Unless the heads are GT40's, the only place to find the number on those is on the bottom/underside on the intake/pushrod side.

Yep, those were stock on the 93-95 Cobras as QWK posted, and they were made by Crane for Ford. If that's a Cobra engine, it should have GT40 heads on it. They're easy to spot, look on the ends for 3 vertical bars, and by the head bolt holes on the ends, there wil be a "GT" cast into it right by the head bolt hole, and by the corner of the valve cover. Here's a couple of pics for reference..
