That is a stock 5.0 head. I believe they came on all cars from 87-95

Yep, they were originally truck heads that Ford put on the H.O. engines starting in '87.

:yup: You need some GT40 irons at the minimum for that cam, unless you're getting them ported and cut for bigger valves.

like others said that is way to big of a cam for E7 heads, even with bigger valves, you would need a ton of port work and the cost involved (unless doing it all yourself) would be much hogher than looking for a better head (GT40) or perhaps an aluminum head.

If you have a small amount of work done to the heads then the E303 or B303 cam may be a better choice...there are also some very good cams by the main cam suppliers they may be better.

I put a b cam in a stock motor and it worked and sounded great. Had power all through rpm range. With the stock heads i would do a b cam.

And put the Trick Flow valve spring upgrade kit on them too.

BAck in the day, typically you grind down the exhaust cold air injection hump, port match hog out the intake/exhaust bowls and run a 1.84" intake / 1.56" exhaust valves and do a real nice 5 angle on the valve seats, that is about the max you can do on the E7's, you can do more but it would cost more and you get into the price opf cheaper aluminum performance heads.

Ahhh, ok! I haven't been on SCF in a long time.

:werd: Honestly, for what you're probably going to pay to get those worked, you could get some GT40 irons. They're around $300 or less a pair now, or you could find some at a pull-a-part on a 96-EARLY 97 V8 Explorer for about $100. I had some E7's on my coupe that I port matched, and ported out on the exhaust side that did OK. Then I got my GT40's, had them milled down .030", with no porting, and it made a drastic difference on power.

go with the E cam, or B cam and retard it...great sound cam

Go with the B if you're going to keep the 1.7 rockers. Trust me on that one. And like Steven posted, get an adjustable timing set and retard it 4* if you want more top end, or advance it if you want more bottom end/midrange on the street.;)

BIGDATOWN
04-25-2011, 03:41 PM
Or you could always price the 1.7 rockers :)

Leaning a lil toward the b cam... already have 1.7 rockers

This will give you an idea of what to expect. B cam was installed 'straight up' (no advance or retard)
