SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, this SOB is about to get me bent 3 different ways to SUNDAY!

First I thought I had it seated all the way in, trans was on my bench, I lug the thing 25 feet to the car, go to stick it under to slide it up on jack b/c the trans won't fit under the car while being on the jack. I have to tilt the trans up a bit on the tailshaft to get the top of the bellhousing to slide up under the body of the car and you know what happens next....ya, converter slides out, not all the way out, but far enough. Long story short, I wrestle with it for another 1.5-2 HOURS (off and on cause I was so PISSED!!)(oh, in a light drizzle no less, 2000% relative humidity) that I FINALLY snatch trans and converter out and lug the 25 feet back to put it up on my bench to see WTF the deal is..., old converter pops right in, click, click click, it's like the grooves that are going into my one piece shaft are not machined cleanly enough to allow it to go all the way in.

Spline count has been verified already so that's good, the only thing that concerns me is that the NEW converter has "spots" for 3 shafts (like stock AOD), my trans has the solid 1 pc. shaft. so I'm wondering if it's (the shaft) bottoming out before it can seat all the way in there and allow the pump to grab the converter, you can def. tell it's not grabbing on the pump "ears" because it spins WAAAAY to freely....perhaps I just haven't lined it up PERFECTLY...but DAYAM, I should have been riding by now...lol :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I may have to call PTC in the AM and see if they have any suggestions...

Measure the flat parts on both converters where they slide into the drive gear on the pump, and see if the PTC converter is any thicker. Also check and see if the new one is slightly rounded on the edges where is lines up with the pump gear. It should be, but you might have to dress it up a little with a file or some crocus cloth.

well after cooling down and getting my bloodpressure back down to a semi-normal level it appears as though my input shaft (1pc) is bottoming out inside the converter (converter has "holes" for 3 shafts like a stock aod...so therefore there isn't enough room for it go all the way in, far enough for the pump to grab the ears...

ex. my input shaft sticks out from the pump shaft about 1.75 inches and the depth that the converter will allow is only about .75 or a tad bit more....I'll give PTC a call on monday and see what we can do to remedy the situation, it even says that it is a Non-lock up convertor on the outside of it...so i don't know what it's got the space for the lock-up shaft?!?!?!

That blows....

But at least you didn't throw it out in the yard and go beat on it with a hammer :D

I was gonna suggest calling PTC... Let us know what they say. Probably just accidentally got the wrong one off the shelf. They're good about taking care of customers.
