conditions of this were/are, (1) Grades must be kept up (A's and B's), (2) He helps with all/most of the work/buying of parts, (3) Any inkling of "hokey extra-curricular" activities and the car is SOLD and I will keep all the proceeds! Hopefully this will give him some motivation to move towards a tangible goal and be able to pursue other goals/activities.

All in all, it's a pretty solid car with alot of potential and a good starting point for him.

aside from actually appreciating what they've got, it gives them a sense of "ownership" knowing they put some sweat equity into it...that and he might actually learn something that he can then teach his kids (LATER on down the road!!! lol) and save his family some $$$$ not having to pay someone else to do stuff to his own cars

LOL with that one odd headlight it looks like an eyepatch :D

Looks like a great 1st car kid/dad project, I will be there in about 5 years, next spring I plan on having the oldest start mowing lawns and 25% of what he makes goes towards a car fund.
I am looking forward to teaching him (and the 2 other boys) about cars, just hope they want to learn at that age.

Craig, That's a good idea (25% thing). Mine up until this time hasn't really had that much desire to get into cars. I was different, my parents got divorced when I was 7-8 so I never really got to see my dad, so when I did get to see him, I wanted to do EVERYTHING with him...he prolly got sick of me following him around like a freaking shadow!...

got the cam in the other day, timing cover on and painted, water pump on and painted, oil pump in, pan on (and painted), new FMS lifters in (SOB they expensive!!! $112 from summit), dogbones and holder in.

Got the AOD out of the shaggin' wagon and took apart. All in all, it's in "decent" shape. Will need a rebuild kit with bushings/bearings. Daddy's tapped out for now....

Will do, have to get some more batteries for my camera, sometimes it's like pulling teeth with him, just about all he cares about it his girlfriend, and playing guitar....My dad and I worked all the time on my first car ('69 Impala with 350) and I loved it too, one of the things I cherish most.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks....

Got some more stuff done today...and the last couple days. Day before, a buddy of mine and myself went to the JY in Columbus,GA and got a set of GT40 heads and GT40 U/L intake to put on this motor....after we left that JY we went by another and picked up a set of 94/95 front spindles and brakes.

Yesterday I dropped off the heads at the machine shop to do a valvejob (still looked great despite 160K miles on them), put new springs, and get them surfaced and all cleaned up and check them out to make sure all is good.

Today I worked on my Mountaineer for a few mins, then tackled some stuff on the 92 hatch...

~got rear drums adjusted
~filled the rear end up the rest of the way
~installed new rear shocks
~got tank ready to take to shop to be ROTTED out
~took 4 lug stuff off and bought new 94/95 ball joints, new tie rod ends, endlink kit
~went to Summit Racing and ordered new stainless brake lines and got new wheel locks and lugnuts
~mounted two back rims/tires

Will pick up the ball joints and rest of the front suspension stuff minus brake lines tomorrow morning (get done in time to watch some football this w/e)

So far I'm (we...lol) are into this car for a tad over $1900 including $500 purchase and $200 for the shortblock....

got the new ball joints in today and the endlinks on one side, would have done more but didn't get started till later and the wind was whipping, not to mention it was time for UGA game...

put new steering rack/bushings on it yesterday, braided brake lines came in the other day and got them put on today, got fronts converted over to 5 lug. In the process of trying to get the tires/spindles somewhat aligned enough to get to the alignment shop (once motor etc. gets in) I managed to bugger the $h!T out of the DS tie rod end...the BRAND DAYAM NEW tie rod end....:nutkick:

Still need to get rebuild kit for trans (AOD) , cut out lower core support and weld in new one (once I get one), cut out/weld in new floor pan (once I get), clean out gas tank and get it mounted...

BUT that said, car looks 10000% better with the new (to us) rims on it!!! Pics to come here shortly (maybe tomorrow)

busy watching BAMA/LSU game now...

got the GT40 heads back from the shop, had them do a valve job, clean everything up, deck it, and put on some new Crane Beehives and they are good to go. Just need head gaskets, intake gaskets, clean up GT40 upper/lower (been soaking in the parts washer for about 2 weeks..lol)

ya it has a newly rebuilt (carbed) 302, 4 wheel disk brakes, C4. The guy we got it from gave me an extra front and back bumper (all aluminum), an EXTRA disk brake rear end with 3.27's, AND another set of the same wheels as what is on it (black, but not as good of shape as those) WITH TIRES.....for $1000.....which I thought was pretty good deal, considering we drove up to dudes house, drove it around the block then drove it right up on the trailer...WOOT WOOT!

The hatch has been completely gutted (black interior) and we will be doing his car like my fairmont, with a black dash, gray tweed buckets ala 96+v6 seats, and black center console. Swapping in a fresh motor with GT40 heads/intake, ecam, and freshly built AOD.

Should be a fun little car!

Little update, we pulled the "old" 302/C4 combo out and put the GT40 motor/AOD in and fabbed a trans crossmember, fabbed a mount for 12x12 "LONG" Transmission cooler, installed cobra front brakes, had new front windshield installed, pulled old blue carpet out, painted some trim, ran power wire for amp, installed foxbody hood release cable and latch (fairmont had it where you just pull the little rod to the left of the DS headlamp to "unlock" the hood) installed new black carpet from the "old" project hatchback.....Something else but I can't remember.

Moving along anyway.
