Got the #4 piston and new ring installed tonight. Also got the heads torqued down, valves adjusted, crankshaft, timing chain, all bearings, main girdle, stud girdle, headers, oil pump, and oil pickup installed.

Tomorrow night's plans are for the intake, oil pan, and timing cover/water pump to be installed. Thursday night the motor will get put in the car

I don't know about anyone else, but I would consider that winning. :shrug:Alright there Captain Obvious! I have never considered the et brackets as really winning. You get a sticker and make about $40 after you deduct your entry fee from the $100. "Winning" True Street is taking home the trophy for fastest overall average. And the point I was making with my post was the fact that in a "street" class, it's rediculous that you have to own a 9 second car to be competetive for the top honors. Hence the  smiley. ;)

Brian, if you put new valve cover gaskets, you need to keep checking the bolts after you tighten them up. What I do is put a bit of rtv on the threads and put the bolts, then after about 15 minutes go again, you'l see they will be loose, once you tighten them again, cranck the motor and let it get warm. Let it cool off and retigthen them again.

Edgar

My car is ready, oil change and filter, new spark plugs, tranny blanket is on, fender modifications done, checked timing, the bars from the plate had a bunch of teflon tape sticking out the bars??? It took me Sunday about 3 hrs to clean it, check the solenoids, clean the carb, then wash it and wax it on Tuesday. Ready to be loaded Friday morning. Lets see if it will run, been having problems, don't know why car slow down, the only thing I can think is that the slicks could not grow because they were rubbing inside, at the inner front of the fender closer to the torque boxes. Will see. See you guys up there.

It's not really crazy that you have to have a 9 second car to win in a street class. It's crazy that you have to have a mid eight second car to win some true street events.

Lee is still running his stock gaskets. Although, I'm pretty sure it was lost sometime since the disassembly. My comment was just a joke since I don't think I've ever known Lee to have all 12 valve cover bolts on his Mustangs.

. . . except for when we first built this motor -- and that's only because I had bought all new bolt for them. ;)

Edgar, I don't agree here.....if you are using Cork gaskets then I would agree with your statement above but in 1992 Ford went to a steel O-ring gasket that is reusable and once tightened I have never seen bolts get loose using these gaskets. Being that Lee's car is a 93 he would have the steel Oring gaskets....I always upgrade all my engines to these if they did not come with them...reusable and makes removing a valve cover cake work if necessary since you don't have to do anything but toss it back on and tighten it up.

I used them before, but I always lost my bolts, plus they leak on me, but that is because I have the engine sealed, for the vacum pump, that is one of the reasons I use the corke ones.

:werd: on the o-ring gaskets...Felpro has a steel o-ring gasket too. On another note: I bought some stainless phillips-head screws (1/4 x 20 thread) which I use for my valve covers...makes it so nice to just use a screwdriver. & they look pretty good being stainless. :nice:

Yes, I had actually forgot that there are some high 8 second cars in true street. I was referring to the sub 9 second cars.

My whole point was that it's getting a little rediculous. And the fact that even FFW has made comments on their concerns and Campisano, I think it was that spear headed the class. They started the class for those everyday cars to have a class that's fun and they could be competetive. Not for cars that have 30-40,000 dollars in mods that are basically race cars. But, it's their own fault. They didn't structure the rules in a fashion to keep it from happening.

They succeeded in one thing, it's still the most fun class out there. Just not very competetive for top honors. ;)

Not sure when they actually made the switch to these type gaskets, but my '91 GT had them. They may have chaged mid-year in 1991 and mine got them because it was built in August.

The best gasket ever! Not only are they reusable and require very little prep work, but they work really well. I would recommend them to anyone that purchases new valve cover gaskets. :nice:

Yeah, but everytime something hits the concrete floor, it deflect off somewhere before you can get down and see where it is going. Then you spend the next 15 minutes looking everywhere under and around your car. I've found sockets over 20 feet away from my car after they hit the ground. The worst is when the dropped item wedges itself under a nearby tool, box, tire, etc. :notnice:

Yeah, I already experienced my clutch cable taking a dumb on me last year right after the cruise... it definitely would suck to have another one of our cars go out this year for some stupid shit.

Anyway, the starter was fine... I believe Alan told Lee there was a wire loose on the starter itself. We had put it up on the rack right before we called it quits, but it seemed like all the wires on correctly. Oh well, I guess after working on the car till 5:30am, your judgement may be a little off -- I hope that's the only thing we missed.
