View Full Version : 4.6 blowing out spark plugs

Have a friend that has an 1999 GT w/4.6 that has blown out one spark on the right rear and now has blown a spark plug on the right side any one had this happen?

Pretty common problem on the 4.6/5.4 modulars. They make some nice inserts for when they blow out. Only thing you can really do is keep a check on them from loosening

O'Reilly has everything you need. Make sure you don't overtighten your plugs when you put them in.

And use a dab of anti-seize.

Ford recommends a particular type of insert. Check their TSBs!

There is usually a ticking noise (sounds like header leak, or bad lifter) just before she blows!!

Mountain 9200 spark plug insert installer this is what ford recommends to use. does anyone have 1 local i could borrow? my dads truck just blew 1 out a few mins ago. pm me if anyone has 1 i could borrow for a aftewrnoon or so.. thanks
