Former Birmingham Police cruiser (unit 749)

It has 102K on the odometer. Car seems to be in decent mechanical shape, but I'm going to be in preventive and restorative maintenance for a while.

First "mod" ... new wiper blades.

Second "mod" ... restored the headlights with a little elbow grease.

You buy it at an auction?

Local dealer bought it at auction. I did a little research and found out what it sold for. I made out pretty good on it.

Will do, but I don't foresee that happening any time soon.

First things first, I'm working on getting the maintenance records from the Birmingham PD. After I've made sure service is up to date and address any potential issues I find along the way we'll have a solid base to work with.

Priority 1 ... New tires.

To each their own, but for my tire size, I know I can buy a tire a third of the cost with better tread wear than a Michelin the same size. Guess which one I bought? Reference... Tirerack.com

Tirerack.com is one of the sources I use for comparison shopping. Between the traction, tread wear (820 btw), and road noise ratings, I'm perfectly happy for what I paid. :nice:

So much for "cop suspension" :jester:

Tie rod ends and upper/lower ball joints all need to be replaced.

Achieved a personal best average MPG for a tank. 26.3 ... 64+% over EPA.

Not to shabby for a police cruiser with 3.55s in the rear.

You must've put a throttle-stop on it. LOL

Nope ... but that's not a terrible idea. :jester:

Replaced the plugs and fuel filter.

Installed an UltraGauge and started hypermiling.

I began fuel logging in mid-August with a base tank average of 16.3 (EPA combined average is 16). After relearning how to drive I've improved by 10 MPG on my best effort in 2 months and saved approximately $193 in fuel costs so far.

You can see a chart of my fuel log here (http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/crown_victoria/2000/24601/310272/fuelchart).
