I bought a wiring harness for the new radio ... what else do I need to wire it up to work with the Mach 460??

does the radio you are hooking it to have RCA outs or speaker level outs (or both)? If its RCA, me or someone else could take the wiring harness and adapt it to where it would plug into the front and rear RCA's on your headunit and plug directly into the mach460 amp harness. If its speaker level, just wire it up like you would any normal headunit and everything should plug up fine.

Also your wiring harness should have come with 2 pieces. a retangle piece that has the red, yellow, blue, orange and black wires that hooks into the main power wires.. and then a square one with 8 pins which hooks into the speaker wires coming out of the headunit.. tahts the one that would have RCA's on it and hooks into the mach460 amp signal plug.

The wiring harness that was sold to me came in one piece with 2 white, 2 green, 2 purple, 2 gray, 1 black, 1 grey, 1 yellow. I asked about it since I bought the harness to install my old radio in Brad's car at the same time which was in 2 pieces (also has Mach 460) ... He said that it had changed and I this is what I would need, but I would need to adapt it to make the 460 work.

When I installed my Sony MP3 player it came with one harness for the Headunit and I bought a harness for the Mach460.

The Mach 460 harness plugged into the underdash wiring and the radio harness plugged into.... duh, the radio. I then had to splice the two harnesses together. The Mach460 harness should have writing on each wire detailing what it is used for and it will correspond with the writing on the radio harness.

(ie Right Rear +, Antenna, Power Wire, Ground, etc...)

and I bought a harness for the Mach460.

 where can I buy this harness?? Tweeter is closing shop and didn't have crap ... the audio install shop in circuit city didn't have one either (they are the one's that told me I would have to adapt the harness to work.)

what year is your car?

I need to look up how the harness is.

but based off looking at your headunit specs, run it off the speaker level wires since its putting out some nice wattage numbers. Would probably be better than only 2v RCA"s.

This is getting more involved than the simple plug and play installs I'm use to doing. :(

Honestly i'd really like to look at the plugs in the car and the harness before I will really know. Let me look up a few things and see what I can figure out without haveing to see it.

Ok, this is what i found. I've always had great luck with Best Kit kits (thats weird sounding). Tell me which one it is that you have based off what it looks like compared to these...

BHA1771 98-UP Ford power and 4 speaker harness.

Oh I have no doubt there, we originally went to tweeter and found out they were closing shop and didn't have any harnesses left...

Thanks for the help guys ... where would be a good place to pick the right harness up??

Probably not. He probably didn't have anyone to go with him to show him where a Best Buy is. :poke: :jester:

Maybe you should tell him that it's a lot easier to find with his eyes open.

Ok, I picked up the right harness ... so now comes the fun part ... wiring it up ... this is a little more confusing than what I'm use to ... the factory harness uses more wires than the Pioneer (fine)... but the confusing part is some of the wires to the three different plugs are duplicates ... I'm guessing one set goes to the speakers and the other goes to the 460 amps ... just not sure how to go about wiring it all up.

I've searched for wiring diagrams and such and have come up pretty much empty handed ... if anyone could help it would be appreciated. :nice:

I won't really have the time anytime soon (working alot of overtime) so if you just happen to make your way over that'd be cool, otherwise I'll just have to wait til I'm not trying to kill myself with the overtime. ;)

Thanks Scott :chug:
