Just one question I have about doing the swap. I found a great write up on corral i'm going to use and I have a whole 94 v6 for the donor car. From everything i've seen people do them in v8 cars. Will the axles from the parts car still fit in my rear since its a 7.5? Or is there any other differences from a 4 banger to a v8? Mines a 93 lx btw

The axles won't fit. The most common solution is two driver's side axles from a ford ranger with an 8.8 rearend.

Could you just go ahead and use the whole axle housing etc.. from the donor car?

The SN95 car will have a little more track width

Not sure, how much wider are the the sn95?

I thought the 94-98 rears were the same as 87-93 except for the addition of disc brakes which gives the 1.5" additiional width to the rear

I can't remember if the axles only are longer, or if the housing as well is slightly longer. Perhaps you could measure the two and see.

Also is one in better shape than the other, less milage, etc...

It just may be easier to put the SN95 rear axle assembly with the brakes, etc.. into the Fox body, rather than swapping everything over.

I believe the sn95's are the same as my cobra, which is the each axle is 3/4" longer than one with drum brakes.

Oh yeah. doesn't matter if its a 7.5 or a 8.8, the axles are the same. The type of brakes is what makes the difference

I know the 99 up cars supposed to be 1.5" wider than the 94-98, I will measure everything when i get all the parts out. Would be nice to just swap rears

Right.

Disc brakes on either rearend 87-98 adds 1.5" width over a drum brake setup. 99-up actually has a 1.5" wider housing.

I have the 88 T-Bird rear brakes. I kept the stock axels but had to order bracket from north corbra's.

Thunderbird (87-88) turbocoupe axles are the exact same as '93 Cobras...4-lug and all. The housings are all the same size though (ie: the axle tubes).

coupe is correct. the housings are the same size but the axles on the T-birds are 3/4 of an inch longer to allow for the ABS brakes. I opted to use the factory axles from my 86 with brackets made by Northern Cobras that recessed the caliber back 3/4 of an inch.

If you need to see more details, I have a link on my website. Click on the home link and then scroll down to where it says "Thunderbird TC Rear disc brakes" in bold.
