I will be buying new tires in the next couple of months and I am trying to find out what the biggest sizes will fit on a 1995 SN95 with a 17x9 rim.

Currently I have a 255/45/17, the front looks like the size is maxed out, without having rubber sticking out of the wheel well. Is this the largest size on a front?

The backs look like I could mount up a 275 no problem, and not have any rub issues, anyone no from experience?

I have also thought of just getting all 4 the same size so I can rotate them. With the miles I put on the car, longevity almost more than important as function.

Nathan has 315 Nitto 555Rs on his car and it fills it out nicely. That's about as much tire as you can get on a 9" rim I believe. 275s will fit on the front (that's what came standard on my Cobra, and your '95 should be identical in the front). I'd run the same tire on all 4 wheels since it's your DD and you put a good bit of miles on it.

Jeanne's car has 275's all the way around, and they stick out a little on the front fenders, but I think it looks good...

Depends on what brand tire you go with. On my 17x9's(which are now Nathan's) I ran a 255/40/17 on front and a 315/35/17 DR in back these were nittos which run small in the drag radials. If you run nittos I'd go with either a 245/45/17 or a 255/40/17 in front (IMO the 255/45/17's have too much sidewall) and either a 275/40/17 or a 285/40/17 in back.

I am not sure if there is a different backspacing on my rims compared to the ones on the blueberry, but on my car the 255 is alomst even with the outside of the wheel well, I would think that the 275 would stick out.

Being that this is a true dd that sees lot's of miles (70-100 per day), I really need to deciede if I want to have two different sizes of tires.
If I do go to two different sizes it would be 255's in front and either 275, or (?) in back.

Now the next topic will be about what tire get the most life ;)

not to hi-jack a thread, but i was thinking of this earlier since i will be shopping for tires pretty soon. if you guys with the knowledge of what tire sizes fit and with which width rim could get together a FAQ it would save on alot of these questions which are sure to be plentiful as the site grows. just my .02

I say a 255/40 is a good size to put at all four corners.

Kuhmo Ecsta 711s or 712s would probably be a good choice. They're fairly inexpensive, have decent traction, and should last longer than a Nitto 555 or the Kuhmo Ecsta MXs I have.

712s suck. They get slippery when they're heated, traction is horrible, and the tirewear blows.

They might be okay if you never really push the car. Stay away from Kumho unless you're going MX.

myfirst set of 712's lasted me at least 30,000 miles. If you want a street tire to take to the track then no the Kumho's are not the tire, but odds are if you like to race a lot you have some type of DR's or slicks for that. For a good everyday tire I will buy Kumho 712's everytime.

Nitto 555's are the best for the money IMO, plus they last a long time.

Wall how many miles have you gotten out of the Nitto's?

On average I am driving around 20k per year, so I want something that will last at least 1 1/2 year.

craig, i've been riding on Sumitomo hrz.. no complaints, nice tread design, good price at 70 bucks a wheel msrp, wet weather.. good stuff. i've yet to break them loose on wet roads..

paul gets em at a discount and i needed a good all weather tire when i got my new rims. even two size differences.. it was only 100 bucks a tire.. i will admit tho, i had no complaints from my Nitto's 555R dr's. they stuck like glue up in NC on the dragon run in october, but i really had to heat the piss out of them to get em to stick up @ Steele.. but thats either (A) my fault or (B) the fact steele's track sucks..

Jase,
I saw the Sumitomo tires and wondered how they were, can't hardly beat the price.
So you paid $70, or $100?

My set on the talon only looked incredibly rough at 13K miles, and about 1k miles later + 3 autoxs they're corded. The t/a has them also, they suck there too. The crappy goodyears that were on there hooked better than these 712s with only 8k miles on them. Driving in the rain isn't any better, the car doesn't feel confident at all. Braking is the same way. If there's any, ANY crap/slickness on the road, the tires give and the car slides. Pretty lame considering it's a stock brake system. Didn't happen with the goodyears on there. I regret putting those things on both of our cars. I should have spent the money and gotten a real performance tire, or a tire that's made for everyday driving. Not a crappy mix of the two, it doesn't do either well.

If you're going to drive everyday and traction isn't an issue, get a higher treadwear rating tire. If you push your car at all, the 712s won't work. They're cheap for a reason.

bout 90 i beleive.. this is the second set of street tires from them i've used. my 98 cobra r's were 245/17 all around.. when i bought the 275 nitto DR's, the back sumi's went up front, a couple of days before we went up to N/C..

did fine in my opinion. VHt is used to pave 129 it seems :D
but we ran into a t storm comin into knoxville on the way home.

Nitto's DR's are useless in any adverse weather.. drop the temp 30 -40 degrees and its like drivin on ice skates.. they wear faster too.

Well,

I think I am going to keep my GoodYear GS-D2 (3 of them) and GS-D3 (1) and use these once the current tires are done (probably in another few months).

Looking at current used tire prices I would be lucky to get $300 or so out of them.
the GS-D3 is brand new and one of the D2 has under 1000 miles on it.

These tires are less than optimal size (245/40/ZR17) for the car (look to small and too short) but for just driving the car back and forth to work it almost seems foolish to get ride of these tire for that cheap (new they are almost $200 each), then still have to spend another $200 or so for a set of new tires.

Oh well.

Thanks for all the input on the subject, once the GoodYears are used up I will defiantly be buying some bigger meats!
