Good news

18 June 2005 Robert Lane Dearborn, Michigan.

Ford has agreed to settle lawsuits filed agaist it due to cracking intake manifolds on certain 1996-2001 4.6L engines. The engines are found in: Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car, Mustang, Cougar and Thunderbird models. The settlement could impact over 2 million vehicles and cost Ford up to $375 million USD. The plastic intake manifolds Ford used were plastic and were nortorious for cracking, thus causing coolant leaks.

The terms of the settle include:
• Ford will reimburse customers with receipts for the intake repair.
• Ford will pay $735.00 to those without receipts, provided that they can verify with a dealership that a repair was made.
• Ford will extend the warranty coverage for customers whose intakes have not failed.

Ford lost an appeal earlier in the year to have the case dismissed.

That sucks for people that did the repair and then sold their car.

It doesn't say they still have to own the car

You can't honestly believe that people that sold a car would keep receipts of labor they had done on the car they just sold. :shake:

They may be able to pull credit card or checking account records, and have the service deptartment that did the work pull the records.

Heck for $700+ I would surely go through some paper work.

It would probably help to put a small dent in the average owner's repair bill :jester:

The '02 - '04s were plastic, but were reinforced in high-stress areas with aluminum IIRC.

Is there a direct link on how to get this done?

It was just quoted on a local mustang board. I'd goto Ford's website and try to call somebody in corporate to get the latest.

just an FYI, I am being told that Ford is denying any of this completely. Looks like it may have been an internet rumor
