I read on the web somewhere that running a 160 thermostat would actually hurt a fox's performance due to the fact that the engine isnt getting up to the 180 mark. Any opinions on this?

There is a certain temp, 170ish, that the ECU switches into closed loop mode. If it stays in open loop mode it will be running rich/bad gas mileage. 180 is considered the best temp thermo for performance apps due to this problem.

Some ECU switch into closed loop earlier, lower temp, and if you had such an ecu you could runa 160 degree thermo. Doug could datalog your car and see when yours goes into closed loop.

Doug could datalog your car and see when yours goes into closed loop.
Or you could just pull the Binary up using the TwEECer software and see where it's set at.

Go with a 180º. No need for a 160º. If the car overheats with a 180; there are other problems.
