i was just wondering becuase i'm looking at 347 shortblocks and i'm trying to get an idea of how much it would cost me to build one up and put it in the fox.

how much did it cost you to do this (fuel injected)?

i'm thinking anywhere from 10k-15k and thats reusing some of my parts.

unless you are paying somebody to do it, it shouldn't be that high. I would think $5k for everything would be reasonable

You could build one hell of a motor for $15k.

i'll be having it done professonally, i think i could do it myself but i dont want to spend all of that money and have my pistons come flying through my hood....

i was planning for the 2 main components.....CHP all forged internal 347 shortblock and AFR 185cc heads.

that right there is about $3500

That's long way from $15K.

Unless your using top dollar bottom end pieces (IE billet crank, titanium rods etc) it shouldn't cost $15k

As you stated $3.5 to $4k for the short block from CHP and AFR heads.
Another $500 or so for an upper/lower intake, $200 for TB, $200 for a MAF, $300 for injectors $300 for an oil pan, $200 for a fuel pump, $500 do a good dyno tune, thats about $6k, it shouldn't cost but maybe $1k to have someone install it, so you'r looking at around $7k, plus misc (that always comes up) so maybe $8k tops.

really? i was planning istallation being about 2500$ it took 10k to drop a 302 in a ranger but thats with all new parts new rear axel assy, new trans, prof installation, custom motor trans mounts custom transmission console inside ect.

Again, I'll sell you mine 349 stroker with the best in it in an R302 block, from heads down to the oil pan, just put your FI on it and go and run low 11s on motor and 9s on the juice. 10K its yours.

P.S. Can you handle it?

I built my motor, the only thing I didnt do myself was bored the block and balanced everything. I filed the rings, put them on the pistons, notched the block, like I said i did everything except for boring and balancing, it only cost me 300.00. Heck I will sell my motor to ya, if you are interested...runs 10s on the motor....let me know... sorry Edgar

i like the offers but i feel it'd be more interesting to go through the process myself. it gives more of that "this is mine" feeling...plus i really want this setup.

anyway how much HP are you guys making?

It doesn't sound like you're going to be doing much of it yourself. Also, with the heads it's no longer a shortblock. You can buy a nice DSS longblock for around 6k. They'll handle 650+ with not too much trouble.

If you wanna throw some money around I'd be glad to put that drivetrain in for you. I'd even save you thousand bucks if you bring a copy of this thread with you!

My dyno is the track!!!!! I dont know how much HP I am making, I am guessing between 400-425 on the motor and 550 to 600 on the nitrous. Edgar can tell you his exact numbers I belive he had his motor dynoed at walker's recently

wow you must be making significant torque to run 10 on engine with 400-425 hp...that is rear wheel correct?....do you run slicks and drag suspension?

Mine put down 410hp and 433tq at the wheels with 6500 rpms at the Dyno, by the times it ran on motor its more likely 450hp and 450 tq base on the weight of the car w/driver 3300lbs. On the nitrous 590hp and 640ft lbs with a very fat A/F ratio of 10:1. Car ran an 11.20 at 120 off the trailer( tight nitrous converter) and did not mess with it at all, probably a bit more of timing it would of run 11.0s or high 10s on the motor. I have not spray it yet cause the track would not hold it, so just waiting for 1st track to open and then test with the 225 shot. Car has ran before 9.81 at 137mph, but hopefully that now is pretty close to the tune it should run mid 9s. Good luck with your set up:

Edgar
If I was running motor only, with a 4800 stall converter and 4.30 gears it will run easy 10.50s on motor.

Edgar, are you challenging me on the motor buddy..lol....j/k What gear are you running?

I run my car on slicks, I only have 70/30 struts, 50/50 rear shocks, UPR lower and steeda uppers, with stock rear springs and 4 cylinder front springs..

Stephen, gears are 3.73. I have exactly the same shocks, rear suspension is Mac uppers amd Megabite JRs, lowers. If I do the changes I want to do, it might run 10s all day long on motor. I want to put a 3.47 stroke cranck with a 4.100 piston and a solid roller. That will be 370ci!

I just bought a '93 LX back in June after selling my '97 cobra (13,800 miles). I took the proceeds from that sale to fund my new project. I converted the stock (and I mean stock. didn't know they still existed) to a 347 stroker with forged internal, Trick flow Track heat heads, trick flow upper and lower, all ported, stage 2 cam with valve upgrades. I had the work done and it ran me about $8000 for parts and labor. My bill was higher than that so I am guessing on the price, but I had some other stuff done like line lock install, rear adjustable shocks, upper and lower control arms, etc...

sounds good, i will be expecting to have 9k or 10k to fund it with and just hope it doesnt go over so that i dont have to stop my project half finished and have to do it myself....

No, I am pretty sure that is correct, because my wife was thinking of killing me due to the cost after looking at this, plus the car, plus the exhaust, tires, wheels, clutch, etc. You should be good with $9000. Make sure you get a good tune. My car ran like crap until I got my car dyno tuned. Now it runs pretty solid all the way through the rpm range. It was bored pretty good so I lose a little down low, but after 3000 rpm she really wakes up.

yeah after any major mod (power adder, engine, ect) i always thing you should get it tuned. heres what i want to do:
CHP prostreet 347 shortblock
afr 185cc heads
trickflow track heat intake
bbk short headers
bbk O/R X
flowmaster cat back
custom grind cam
CAI
3:55 rearend gear
clutch and trans (whatever i can afford)
and a dyno tune
plus all of the little parts i cant re-use ect.

Sounds like it will be stout. Is CHP near you?
