I say it's a bad oil ring

I say it all came about because of the loose nut behind the wheel :jester:

. . . and here's details of the damage:

I guess Lee found the limits of the hyperutectic pistons. ;)

Is it normal for a timing chain to stretch this much after only a few thousand miles.

So lee, what are the plans for the motor? What all are you going to poot in there?

And don't they make chain-less timing gear sets that are more reliable and stronger than the chain?

Yes...depending on the type/manufacturer of the chain. This is why I like the Rollmaster Billet chains...they don't stretch like the others ;)

That is normal though for most chains...

You know what my machine shop told me today? I was asking if they had any mex blocks laying around and that I would possibly like to use one in the other car. He looked at me and told me that I was an idiot if I swapped to a mex block, he claimed the only thing about the mex block that was good was the caps. Other than that the late model 5.0 block had more webbing, etc and was actually a better block.

He has no clue what he is talking about....I've got both sitting here on the floor and even a blind man could tell the difference between the two. If it were me I would find another machine shop....I mean, it makes one wonder what else he might "think" he knows or doesn't....

After looking at the two blocks at Paul's, its obvious. The skirts at the bottom of the bore are twice the thickness, the webbing is thicker and has much smoother radiuses for lower stress concentrations(sharp corners crack easier).
