I need to know if there is any way other than pulling the trans, to tell which crankshaft i have. I have a 96 mustang 2v and want to put the 11 inch cobra clutch kit in. ( not that it needs it) I got the whole kit for less than 200 dollars which contains the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. According to Ford manuals the motor can be identified by the vin, which mine is x which this is supposted to be a windsor built engine with the 8 bolt crank. I have read that it can be identifed by the valve cover bolts. But mine has the non pi heads will this still hold true with these heads? I would like to find out before i remove the trans and have to wait on a new clutch and flywheel. Thanks

11" clutches did not start until around 2000 or so

. What im asking is there anyway to tell how many bolts my crank has could be 6 or 8 without pulling the trans, They dont have a flywheel that will accept the 11 inch clutch with 6 bolts. Mine could be either.

well let me rephrase.

I do not believe 8 bolt flywheels showed up until around 2000 or so

Correction, 8 bolt flywheels did NOT show up until 99 and they were windsor motors.

Another identification method

11 are Romeo heads and 13 are Windsor heads

What model Cobra does she have?

Can't you buy a 6 bolt flywheel for a 11 inch clutch?
