My nephew has a '98 GT. From time to time, he has difficulty starting it because of the anti theft chip. Sometimes it will start up on the first try.. other it will take 50 attempts until the anti theft will recognize the key. He has brought it to the dealer & they said its doing it because there is an aftermarket alarm system thats interfering with it. Theres noting they can do.. Go home & remove the alarm. So some time ago I helped him remove all the alarm stuff.. It still does it. He went back to the dealer & they said try new keys.. so he had them make new keys.. It still does it. We are fed up with this stupid problem.. He wants the anit theft system gone!! Can he just buy a new ignition from the previous year mustang that didn't have the anti theft chip & swap it in?

Thanks,
Carl :chug:

i had a friend with a 98gt that had the same problem.we had to swap all the anti theft stuff out from another 98 to get it to stop.after we swapped it all out it worked great.

Cant the anti theft stuff be turned off with a chip or flash from sct? I would talk to Doug over at Bamachips.com. He could tell if it can be turned off that way, plus getting a custom chip may add a few extra hp to boot.

1996 was the year they started the anti-theft. You would have to use something prior to that year.
