Worth it? Pros? Cons?

Weight savings, better traction.

For a car that will see a lot of strip action, yes.

For me, no. Not worth giving up the handling and ride characteristics that make a Cobra a Cobra IMO.

I know a guy that wants to swap out his IRS system for a live axle. Just trying to come to a conclusion on whether or not it's something I want to look into.

Some things to consider:

1. A live axle with a 3-link and panhard bar will handle just as well if not better than a modded IRS.
2. It's A LOT of work to do the swap.
3. Your catback will not work with the IRS.
4. The IRS weighs 200 pounds more.

I like the way my car drives with the IRS. It might weigh more, but atleast the added weight is in the rear. Once I get finished with "Postban's Red Pill" (go to svtperformance.com, search the memberlist for "postban" and click on the red pill in his signature), it'll hook great, too.

Straight up trade but the cat-back thing is going to be the deal-breaker. I completely forgot about that little bit.

I don't know if you are talking about me what, but I want to swap my 03 IRS for a solid rear in the near future.

I don't know where this 200lb came from... IRS weighs 70lbs more than a Solid rear.. BUT think about it... IRS has alot less 'sprung' weight or unsprung? only

I have a MAC stainless 3inch catback too that would go along with the trade.

its totally 100% bolt in no brake bleeding needed. you would keep your rear calipers because GT and Cobra ones are the same. I don't give a crap about rear brakes and would just rock GT rotors for a while. I know you can buy the MACH1 caliper brackets so you could use 'Cobra' rear rotors.

I've had quotes from junkyards for complete 8.8... $600-$800 so i'd like to find someone that wants to do the trade.

it would be awesome to find someone that already has some cool UCA's or LCA's or maybe some gears (3.73s)

Nah, I wasn't talking about you but now that I know you are looking at doing it...and I do have 3.73s. I don't know, I'd have to think about it. I too have the 3" MAC exhaust (not stainless though).

I would like to have a IRS for my svo but you wouldn't want the rear end out of it. Its a 7.5

shit.. just take the whole car..

always buying stuff from me. you sure you want a IRS rear end? have you ever rode in one?

I'll give you a ride here soon even let you drive it if you want....

I know a shop that we could use to swap our stuff locally.. I bet it would take all freaking day.. but i'm up for it.

how many miles you got on that thing?
