View Full Version : What is in style now??

Ok I am slowly working out the motor details on my project car and I need to know what is in style for the other details. In 1992 really dark window tint and dark headlight covers were in style. Those Hammer type wheels were also in style. I am not sure what type wheels they actually are however that is what everyone called them.

Well my car is in mint condition on the outside however it still sports those 16 inch "hammers"...very dark window tint...some gay ass "No Fear" decals and those dark headlight and taillight covers. I have now grown to like a more clean look and I am thinking of removing the tint and really need some satin Cobra wheels.

What do you think looks best on the Fox body cars today? I really am wanting to do a little different look on the outside and I am thinking of making a clone of the 93 Cobra. That is a very clean look and just looks right to me. I am cleaning some of the dust and stuff off the car and will try to get a few pics up here soon.

So give me a few suggestions or maybe some photos of what you think is a nice Fox body...thanks

Also, if you have any "calvin pissing" stickers you're not telling us about, those are out too. :D

What he said. Tint is still very much in style, light or dark... I had my coupe tinted 15% and it looked sweet.

:agree:

And I'm personally not a big fan of the '93 Cobra wheels, either. They're alright on Cobras since that's the way they came, but there's no way I'd spend extra money for those wheels. I'd rather have the over-done and played-out Cobra R's than '93 Cobras. Plus they're only 7.5" wide. :notnice:

I think I said it wrong when I said Cobra Wheels....I like the Cobra Rs much better than the Factory Cobra wheels on the 93 models. For some reason I like the satin color much better than the chrome. It looks like brushed aluminum and adds just enough without being too flashy I think.

It has been an excellent car and was taken very good care of. I think it needs to be updated a little however it is a nice base to build on. I think a set of at least 17 inch Cobra Rs would be a good place to start. I really would like a nice coupe but this car is a little sentimental to me....lot of memories in this car and I plan on keeping it.

I personally like the chrome Cobra Rs. They look really good on a show/crusin car. Ours has some but they dont have the Cobra R center cap and they're 4 lug. I want to upgrade to 5-lug 4 wheel discs and get the real deals. To me the silver ones look good on cars that are for racing applications. They give you the look without the eye catching feature.

Anything darker than 35%, or any tint on a windshield is a $206.00 fine! and if I stop a car with tint I can't see through ALL passengers are introduced to Terra Firma--I take NO chances.

Noel.

That car is appears to have very good paint still on it. It looks good. I would throw a cowl hood on it (around 2" rise) and some kind of 17" wheel. I wouldn't do the 'R's but that's just me. Start thumbing through the magazines and see what other wheels are out there now.

I understand where you're coming from, but that doesn't mean it doesn't look good. :D

My car has 20%. :hiding: :bluelight The only reason it doesn't have 5% is because I think that might be too dark for backing out of driveways and stuff at night. 20% is almost too dark sometimes.

Robocop. I'm gonna take another route from the others:
I'd just yank the blackouts and stickers and use a stock hood. I think the wheels are pretty cool; they sit in the fender pretty good too but they need a little wider tire put on them... That's a clean car. Get it running & driving & you'll have people commend you on the wheels.

TheJeanyus

The wheels aren't that bad. If it were mine, I'd spend money on other stuff first, but wheels would be in the works eventually.

The car has really been just stored for so long I will have to have new tires and will really like to get some updated rims also. I so much want the 5 lug conversion and 4 wheel disc set up however I was shocked to see just how much that will cost. All the extras like wheels, white face guages, Cobra Clone body parts, will have to wait until after I get it actually running.

The paint is in perfect shape as I was very weird about washing it every week when it was running as my daily driver. I really did take good care of this car back in the day. The interior is just as nice however I really want some nicer seats than the factory ones.
I am trying to post a few more pics in some better lighting to show better detail. I really do think I have a good starting point and after cleaning the dust off the car I am feeling that fever again...I want this car running.

I do like the new styles very much and also like the 94 and up models as well. I just can not get the Fox Body out of my system. This was the body style that started it all for me. I had 3 total starting with a 1987 then a 1990 and finally the 1992 that I still have. It may be simply that it reminds me of my youth and back in the day the 5.0 Fox body was the one to beat.

Yes I know the new ones are leaps and bounds ahead of the old Fox Body but for me this car still does it....it reminds me of those nights simply cruising around and I had alot of fun in this very car. If I did not already have one and had to start fresh with a build today I would honestly pick a nice coupe. To me the coupe just looks like all business. No flash or fancy wings and with a decent set of rims and paint the 1992 and below coupes still put fear into many street rodders to this day. If you see a nice one on the street everyone always says "damn thats a nice coupe...I bet it is fast"

It has been so long since I have been able to hear that distinct rumble of a set of FlowMasters and a 5.0...nothing else sounds like it. I can not wait to get this car running however for it to look so nice I have a long way to go. All my research has paid off and is helping me to make the good decisions in what way to approach this project....but it has also shown me that it is not so simple as picking a few parts and hoping for the best. I was so far gone from the scene I never even realized Tremek had several new trannys to pick from now and what the hell is this G-Force stuff.I only remember the older 3550 and the World classT5 as the only options....man have I got a lot to learn.

My plan is to have this thing up and running before Summer. Once it is on the street I will then save each month for other things starting with the suspension. Then I may go with the appearance however with the exception of a set of wheels and those blackouts the outside is ok.

I need to decide if I want to get a K-Member before I go any further. Griggs and D&D are the only ones I have priced and I have read good things about Maximum Motorsports stuff. Do I really need a new K-Member?

I wasn't able to look at the pics earlier (the links weren't working for me) but now that I got a better look at them, those aren't "Hammer" rims. The Hammers were the mercedes wheels from the AMG Hammer.

Those that you have are more like a variation of the old "Fittipaldi" wheels -- which I always loved on the Mustangs. :nice:

I guess they look a little like the true Hammer wheels. This is what most people were using way back then and I think the term "Hammer" was all we could come up with. I believe the ones I have on it now were made by Prime wheel company if I remember correct....may have even been American Racing wheel company but I am not sure.

My $0.02.....

Ditch the wheels. FAST! You can get some 17" Cobras on there real quick so that it looks good enough to drive around.

To me, that tint it too dark anymore. The lighter, more factory looking tint is where it's at. Especially on a white car. Too much black/white contrast with the windows being so dark.

Stock hood all the way. I wouldn't cowl it I dont think. Unless you go with the boy racer big/little on the wheels. The stock hood is where it's at right now.

Clean/clear headlights. New lenses all the way across the front. If you want the custom look, get either some smoked lenses, or the crystal lenses.

Set the car down to about an inch of the tire tread when you get the wheels on. Try to get a 17 or 18x10 in the back, 17 or 18x8 up front. a 295 on back would be pimp. Might even get chrome wheels......

Uber clean details all over. That makes or breaks the car. Get stainless tails, even though you can barely see them on a GT. Keep the inner fenders spotless, Clean the front end up behind the bumper cover. Lot's of stuff can be seen through that little opening on the bottom, make sure it's all clean enough to eat off of. That stuff doesn't costs very much, but goes a LONG way in the visual impact of the car.

I do have the factory hood and it is in perfect shape. I really do not like the bigger hoods and with the motor set up I plan to go with I will not have any clearance issues.

Flashbang thanks for the link and I think I will take your advice and have one installed now and go with the other parts after I get my car running.

Richard my camera sucks and I am trying to scrape these damn decals off now.....At least I took that white bulldog sticker off the rear window before the pics. I may use your camera to document parts of this build if I can. Brady told me I could come to Howtons and take pics of the machine process. It would be very cool to have this build on film kind of like a scrapbook.

Disney I really do like the crystal clear lenses however on this car my lenses eventually got a haze to them as most all Fox Bodies do in time. I will get some replacements for the front and I really like the LX tail lights when placed on a GT model....very classy look to me. I mostly like a simple look now and I am kind of hoping for a clean look. I like Italian LXs car...it is a nice simple look with rims and a business type stance.

Very nice looking car man. If it were mine I would get rid of the blackouts, stickers, and wheels. The tint looks good. However, I like DARK tint. While it is true that anything darker than 35% is illegal, 35% tint is a joke in my opinion. Anything higher than 20% is just a waste to me. I see it from both ends. Being a retailer I have to explain to the customer that darker than 32% is illegal and I am not liable if they get a ticket. On this same note I also understand where any officer would say that he cannot see the individual in the car. My personal taste depends on the car. On my black car I like it dark with the whole front w/s tinted as well. On some other vehicles I would think it would look clean to have the whole car including the front w/s done in 30% or 35% so the whole car is the same and looks clean. I hate 35% because it is so light on the car once it is on. All tint fades equally over time so I don't sell a 35%, I do a 30%. From what I have been told I think there is a 2-3% leadway that the state allows to compensate for the factory tint(very very very light, maybe like 80% not noticeable just there to help with glare)... That is all.

Is it illegal to have a small strip of tint across the top of the windshield? My Mustang had a strip like that and it was installed by a state trooper.
