Ive been looking at pistons lately trying to find a nice set of high compression pistons. We want one that will give us that good sound but we still want to be able to use pump gas (93). I found of set of 351 pistons that said the bore was 4.030 bore. Will those work in a 5.0 bored .030 over? Also it said that the dome was 12cc. What would the compression ratio be with stock, Trickflow, and AFR heads? Thanks.

_12cc or 12cc. If 12cc it is going to be around 13:1. And if this is for 351 stock stroker, no it will not work on a 5.0, because compression hight is different. What are you building, a stroker?

For pump-gas. You should stick with flat-tops...somewhere around 10.5:1

One thing to remember is that the bore of a 302 and a 351 is the same. Both are 4.000".

Like Edgar mentioned the height of the piston will be different because of the stroke differences between the two engines

:werd: True. A 306 piston can be used in a 393 Windsor. That's about the only example I know that crosses the line from short to tall deck windsors.

So if I can get a set of flat top pistons it will give me a 10.5:1 compression? That seems a littl ehigh off a flat top. Does that include doing anything to the heads?

no. Flattops will not give you 10:1 compression in a 302 unless you mill the piss out of the head deck

What would I need to get a compession that sounds like a race car but will run on 93? We like the sound of high compression but cant afford the gas for it.

EDIT: Basically I want it to be as high as possible but be street freindly.

I wouldn't go any higher than 10:1 on a pump gas motor

10-10.5:1 is gonna be close to the limit with Iron heads without pulling 4-6* of out of it, With flat top pistons your gonna have to mill the heads to get that kind of compression.

If your doing it for sound then your doing it for the wrong reason.

I have some brand new 302 .040 (maybe .030) domes for a 302. Diamond brand I think....
