What year engines? The only year they put a EFI 351 and a EFI 302 in a Mustang was 1995.

Be more specific.

Mass air EFI for both ... just wondering how much difference there was between the hp | tq ratings for the two.

I know the '95 R was rated at 300 hp.

I would think that stock for stock there would be minimal differences. However, once mods are involved it opens up a whole new ball game

I'm wondering if the extra weight of the 351 could be justified with simple bolt-on's

personally I'd just stick with the 302

My 93L which has the factory GT40 heads and intake combo with nothing but exhaust dynoed 240/308 through an automatic ;)

Heads, cam, and intake and it's no contest.

The extra power/torque is a good justification for doing the switch, but the big benefit is if you want high power levels (over 500hp) on a budget. This is the reason I went to a 351-based motor -- I'm too cheap to spend $2000 on an aftermarket block. :D

another thing that begs to be asked is would going carbed save you much $$ even if you have a EFI donor?

i doubt that there is much weight difference between the 2 engines (maybe 120 lbs, i doubt it though.

Eric's truck is good comparison with my car. When my 93 was stock with exhaust (no headers) it put down 248/291. Our engines are the same except for displacement. Same heads, similar intakes, his flows a few cfm more than the 93 cobra intake with the exxception of me having a MAF restriction (minimal) and his truck being speed density.

Of course, if his truck would have had a 5-speed instead of a slushbox, it may have put down closer to 260

As long as you have the donor, the price wouldn't be much different. Either way, you'll have to buy a different lower intake, and the cost of bigger injectors and a new MAF would be offset by having to buy the new carb.

now if you were to go to a 351 based motor could you still supercharge it or would there not be enough room left under the hood, or would there be other probs?

A 351 will require a taller hood, but a centrifugal supercharger shouldn't lead to hood clearance issues I wouldn't think.

The 351 block has the same depth as a 302; the main differences is a higher deck height and 3-inch mains.
