Part 4

Okay, here is the scoop on the new engine.

I had planned on using a DSS stroker kit for my 351 block when the time came, so why not just use a longblock from them since I destroyed the entire engine and have nothing to build.

I called DSS racing and got a guy named Nick on the phone that was VERY helpful. We discussed my combination and I also let him know that I was in a slight bit of a rush due to wanting to drive this truck to Lightning Fest. Nick assured me that he would do everything within his power to get my engine to me as soon as possible.

The Good News: Well, he kept his word and the engine went out on time.
The Bad News: The shipping company almost completely screwed me. After a LOT of Drama I finally got the engine delivered But . . . if was 8pm this past Friday Night !!!!

I stayed up Friday night till 4am Saturday morning (I was up for 24 hours that day)and got it close to ready for install.
About 3pm Saturday afternoon I had it sitting in the engine compartment. I worked on it for 14 hours Saturday and stayed up again till 4 am and got it almost finished. And finally today (Sunday) at 3pm it fired up on the first try!
It was running REALLY ROUGH, but I played with the tune (SCT Pro Racer) and kept altering my MAF transfer function till it would idle on its on. It took me about 6-7 reburns on my chip till I got it running well enough to take if for a little drive about 6pm tonight. All total I spent 25 hours prepping and installing the new engine. I only had help for about 2 hours when my friend Brad helped me drop the motor into the engine bay, other than that I am proud to say that I busted my A$$ and got it done by myself!!

Okay Okay…..I know you want to know the specs on the motor.

I decided on a DSS Pro Bullet 410 cu in Longblock complete with AFR 205 heads, Level 10 CNC block, billet aluminum main support system, Pro windage tray, upgraded to the Pro-X forged pistons, 4340 H beam rods, AFM B41 cam, all ARP hardware, blah, blah blah . . . . .So this should be a BEAST !!

Oh, and the very FIRST thing I ordered the day after I blew the old engine was an “AEM Boost Controller” it has an Overboost alarm to help me not be a Dumbass anymore . . .LOL

There was no way I was going to use any of the old stuff with 211,000 miles on a new engine making the kind of power that its going to be capable of so……
Along with the new Longblock I will be installing:

New sensors, oil air, water
new waterpump
new timing cover
new TCI flexplate (SFI) and ARP bolts
new Summit Steel Balanacer (SFI) and ARP bolt
reman Distributor with steel gear (Ordered a MSD billet dist. But needed money and sent it back)
I Scored a Polished Lower GT40 intake off ebay (came off a 95 Lightning)
new motor mounts
ARP oil pump shaft and ARP oil pan bolts
New oil pan, oil pump pickup and Milodon oil pump
Powdercoated block to trans plate
Cleaned up and painted the turbo headers and downpipe
Ford Racing billet timing pointer

Here are some pics of the supporting equipment:

EZ SPEED
09-18-2006, 04:52 AM
Thanks Everyone !!:chug:

The upper intake is a Jeg's Max Box sheetmetal intake, I have it sitting on a polished 95 Lightning GT40 lower. And I powdercoated the lid on the max box. I wished that I had time to polish the box itself, then it would look awesome.

 I am tired, we spent almost 4 hours on the dyno yesterday. The tune was being a pain in the a$$

We mainly worked on driveability . . . not max power . . .so dont expect any earth shattering numbers just yet. The motor only had about 80 miles on it when we hit the dyno.
This fall I plan on going back and making the tune a little more aggressive when it has some break in miles.

But . . . I know you want some numbers.

---OLD 351 - - 419/529 @ 12.5 psi---

NEW

433 rwhp and 503 rwtq @ 5 psi

481 rwhp and 557 rwtq @ 8 psi

and one run I made Blake shut it down @ 3600 when I saw 14 psi
454 rwhp / 634 rwtq

Hmm....lets analyze that statement...it appears there may be some animosity that eric has toward toby..for example he use a shortened nick name (tyipical of a friendly relationship) for his obvious friend natedawg. However in referenceing Toby he actually extended the name by added the phrase asss. This not only emplies that toby is a ass but the last s implies that of a large ass.
