I need a little help for a freind. He is a classic car dealer and recently traded for a convertible mustang. Heres the problem. The title is a salvage and yet the title shows mustang GT/Cobra. It actually says COBRA. The car has 70K original miles on a 5.0 HO motor, AOD trans and the speedo registers 85 MPH. I do not think that this is right. Did they make Cobras in 89. I thought that the cobra didn't come until the 90's. It doesn't have the cobra engine, but it does have a really nice beefy suspinsion. It is not a 5 speed and the speedo is too low for a cobra. I am unsure, but really want him to know the truth about the car. Is it a clone or a diamond in the rough. Any info. would be apprecieated! Thanks

Fox Cobras were only made in 1993.

Might be an '87 or '88. I think they said 85 mph still.
It's definitely not a Cobra anything. Besides 1993, there was a Cobra from '79 to '81.

Fox Cobras were only made in 1993.Yep, other than the canadian gt's that were sold as cobras in the 80's.

Probably just another idiot with cobra badges on his car. (not your friend, whoever put them on there)

i know who you are talking about, i went there today to look at it and he wanted 6,800 for it. ha the thing is worth about 4,500 max, plus he said that the title said mustang cobra, i dont think that he knows what he is talking about plus if the thing had a speedo that registers 85 something is wrong here, my advice is to stay away from it....

Never seen a vert one, did they badge the canadian gt verts as cobras as well?

Nope. If it was Canadian, then the primary measurement on the speedo would be in KPH. In 1989, it would be maxed out at 200kph.

unless they changed out the cluster.

Craig. tell your buddy to run a carfax on it or see if there is any canadian reference in the driver's side door jam

I didn't want to burst his bubble the other day and was totally not interested in buying it, but I knew that something was wrong with the car. The car looks good, but it just didn't add up. I advised him not to sell it as a cobra and that I would try to find out some info on it. Yes, When he said he wanted $6800 for it, I thought, WOW! hum! I wouldn't give more than $4500 for it and only because of the low miles. Thanks guy's!
