Well, it took me two years of saving money and buying parts, but I finally got the 418 long block complete.

Hmmm, it may have been only two years ago. Maybe it just seems like it's been that long since I had been tripping over that block in my carport for so long. :D

EDIT: I checked back on some old threads and found that it was Jan '05 that I got the motor. (I guess I'm getting forgetful in my old-age. :D)

will that engine make it's debut at Atlanta??????????
It will if I can ever get my stupid headers.

I should have it in with plenty of time to tune it before April. However, it will be making an N/A debut since nitrous would surely put it well beyond the legal limit for a roll bar.

I almost forgot about that.

what headers did you go with?
I just went with ceramic-coated MAC 1.75" long-tubes. I know it will likely be a restriction in the upper RPM, but right now I'm really looking for the motor to shine in the lower RPM range. Besides, I really didn't have $1200 to spend on a set of 2" headers right now. Maybe once I get at least my fuel system upgraded and cage installed, then I may work on bettering the exhaust.

Not yet. I was going to get a 3", but after throwing the upper on top of the nitrous plate, I'm kind of afraid that I may have to go bigger.

I'll probably get the motor dropped in this weekend and take a measurement and order the hood on Monday.

No, I won't be putting the cage in myself. Most likely I will remove all the interior and take it someplace to have it installed and then put the interior back myself.

Wow, that looks great!

Are you sure on the height issues/hood clearance. I know there are some guys on the corral running a stock hood with a 351w, believe it or not. Some type of dropped motor mounts, I believe.

I would think you could get it all under a 3" cowl, course I don't know what type of upper intake you are running...

The only drop mounts I could find are all solid -- since mine is mostly a street car, I didn't want to go that route. Also, my 7-quart Canton pan will not allow for drop-mounts. Lee is running the same type pan on his 306 and we actually had to place shims under the stock motor mounts to keep the pan off of the steering rack/K-member. On top of that, I have offset rack bushings which may cause me even more clearance issues on the bottom. The bottom line is, my motor is not going to be able to drop any lower. :D

Another thing to remember is that I have a nitrous plate which adds another 3/4" to the height of an already tall intake.

Are you hoping to fire it up today???
Probably not. I still have to put the trany back in and some small stuff around the engine bay is lacking; radiator, throttle cable, heater hoses, vacuum lines off the intake, etc. Also, I needed to order another mid-pipe so it would have to fire up with open headers.

I'll probably take it easy today. If I do anything, it will likely be just to install my new instrument guage cluster.

Actually, my previous torque with the juice was 535to the wheels, so the chassis is definitely used to it.

All I have right now is subframe connectors. I don't plan on doing any clutch drops until I get a 10-point in it and reinforce the torque boxes (which will hopefully be later this year).

As a matter of fact, I plan on only running drag radials on the car until then and probably only spraying the motor on the dyno.

Not yet. I still have to send them back. I ended up going with a different manufacturer. The way I saw it, MAC is all the way in California, and by the time I sent them back and they dicked around with them and then sent them back to me, it would be the middle of March. . . earliest.

I decide that I need to get this thing rolling in order to have it fully ready for FFW, so I just bought some BBK's and a new X-pipe and went with it -- they fit like a glove.

Maybe if MAC hadn't been screwing around with me for over two weeks already, I would've been more apt to give them a chance. I guess they just lost a former happy customer. Oh well.

It's only temporary.

I got the 3" cat-back with chrome tips from a guy on the ARS forums for $100 used (and in really good shape). I actually bought it for everything but the mufflers. I plan on doing the same thing I did with my 2.5" MAC cat-back... cut the flowpaths out and put Borla Pro XS mufflers in their place.

For now, I just put the complete cat-back in there until I buy some 3" Pro XS mufflers.

Italian LX

It pretty much overpowered the Centerforce clutch (which I expected), so it didn't really give any good numbers. Especially since the peak torque reading was near the end of the pull around 4800rpm -- and everyone that knows nitrous, the peak torque is at the beginning up the hit.

Anyway, the current numbers on the juice is 589rwhp / 611rwtq :nx:

Well, I don't plan on really using the nitrous much until I get a cage installed, so I'll be fine with the current clutch until then.

I'm sure when the time comes, I'll step up to a SPEC stage-3.
