I use to run the f cam with ported stock 302 heads and it made decent power. If I remember correctly, 270 rwhp and 310 rwtq.

i've got some 351 gt40s. i also have a b cam but from what i've been reading it would be a benefit to sell the b cam and go with a f cam.

ive had the gt40's with the f cam.the heads were mildly ported and i also had .040 shaved off of them as well.i used a 1.6 rocker as well.

that car made 311rwhp and ran great

i have 1.7 rockers now would they work? Also what gasket were the heads ported to?

Just an FYI

Only difference in a gt40 head between a 351 and a 302 is the mounting bolt hole diameter

Are these old heads with press-in rocker studs? If so, you may want to consider having them replaced with screw-in studs. I've heard of a lot of people having the stud pull out -- especially when using a more aggressive cam than originally was intended for.

Your B-303 with the 1.7's will work fine with those heads. Get a set of ARP bolts (or studs) with the adapter washer to allow the use of the 351 heads. This washer fits in the 1/2" hole and takes up the space between your smaller 7/16 bolts found on the 302. Edelbrock also sells them separate if you already have your bolts. Get a Felpro 1250 intake gasket and it should be fine. I don't recommend porting iron heads...with the low cost of aluminum heads these days.

I used the Edlebrock ones for about 5,000 miles and when I pulled the heads, at least 5 of them were broken. I would recommend getting the ARP ones; If you already have the ARP bolts, sell them and buy a new set that comes with the adapter washers.

The set that came on my Cobra crate motor, had 1/2 inch holes. The head bolts had a extended shoulder.

That's interesting, my OEM heads had the normal 302 7/16 holes

I think you can just buy the washers can't you?

thanks guys i haven't got the bolts yet and have heard of the arp bolts with the extended shoulder prob what i'll go with. i may just go with the b cam unless i can find a good deal on some 1.6 rockers and a f cam before the install. i've heard of some guys porting the irons out to a 1262 gasket can't remember right off hand which board it was. anyone heard or seen this i'm not planning this just curious.

A 1262 gasket is huge. If you're staying under 400hp NA or 500 with a power adder...you will be fine with 1250 size or close. And to port a GT40 out to a 1262 would take a long time...and you would have high iron-content in your blood and lungs afterward. :nono:

FWIW, I saw a set of Windsor Jr iron heads wickedly ported (1262 gasket)...and they had to epoxy some holes because it got too thin.

i'm working on matching these to a 1250 gasket now it's coming along okay plus i'm in no big hurry around 5 hours in them now and almost done with one head lol. i think i might just stay with the b cam since with some 1.7 rockers the lift will be almost the same as the f cam with 1.6's. that is unless anyone knows of a benefit of going with the f cam. Is there any sound difference in the 2 cams? i haven't heard the f cam but i have heard the b cam and like the sound.

Naaa. The F-cam won't sound much different... Use what you have. spend the cam/rocker money on a ZEX kit. :D

yeah thought bout trying a little something like that later on. would much rather have a turbo on this car sometime this year but dunno if it'll be possible money wise. prob be more like a bottom end rebuild before that comes into play.
