I'm trying to get the junk 88 lincoln running. It has a 5.0 HO and try to start.
it only runs while the starter is running then dies as soon as you turn the key from the start position to the run position.
any ideas.
I just put some new gas in it, but I cant locate a pressure bleed off valve on the fuel rail to see if it is getting fuel. I imagine it is cause it fires up but like i said only while the starter is turning

thanks joe

The first thing I would check is the ignition switch. They are notorious for going bad, and from what I have read some have actually caught fire. They run about $10 and take maybe 20 minutes to change. When I removed the original one from my 88 mark 7 you could see where parts of it had melted a bit, and it basically fell to pieces.

I agree.

You may also want to check the lock cylinder itself. The cylinder on my 92 let go and did something similar... in the middle of the night... in downtown Detroit. I had to drive home holding the key on, and for some reason none of the lights worked either. Fun night.
