Out with the old:

Most the holes welded shut. Almost done, should start laying down the body filler in a week or two. Will get some new pics tomorrow...

Some of the crap I pulled out...whatever it takes to shed some pounds:meth:

As soon as the engine bay is done, I'll order my new hood from Joe VanO and it goes to the booth for a new coat of C6 "Atomic Orange". Once the car/motor is done, I'll order the polished Magnum 2.0s:drool:

So that's the plan so far. I'll keep this thread updated as I move along. I'm doing everything myself (and as my budget allows), plus I only get 1 or 2 days a week to do anyhting, so it moves slowly, but I'm having a great time working on it:metal:

Good to see you have a plan, Darren. :nice:

. . . and a good one, at that!

Intake...The carbed and FI use the same castings, so I cut and smoothed off the towers that hold the rails. Also smoothed and blended the Sullivan logo off (they're not paying me, so off it goes lol).

Right now I'm working on the bottom and installing a Wilson ProFlow burst panel

:nono:

Why not blow through the carb with a 76-80mm? :turbo:

and make more power.:banana2:

$7000? For a Blowthru? You're having custom headers built anyways aren't you?

Consider how much a teardown and rebuild may be worth to you when you oxidize a hole right through a piston?

Chris Tuten (NMRA Drag Radial 2005 Champ) went through 80 pistons in a season on his N20 motor running mid 8's. His turbo motor ran 8.30's all season in 2005...right up to the championship.

Just putting it in perspective man. :nice:
Keep us informed on the build.

I'm sure big-dollar Turbo cars go through the same amount. The only thing your statement tells me is that they did 10 rebuilds during the season. It doesn't imply that the pistons were actually bad due to nitrous.

Just out of curosity...

Why carb instead of fuel injection?

Money and simplicity.

FI:
Sullivan elbow $300
TB $300
MAF $300
Injectors $300
Rails $200
SCT/tune $650
And every time I change a jet or anything, another $125-150 for a retune.
Not too fond of any local tuners.

F.A.S.T: $2500 (plus all the above)

Bad ass race carb from Pro Systems that I can tune when and wherever w/o kissing someones ass hoping they dont blow my shit up:dump: : $800

I like the way carbed motors look in smooth engine bays. 1 wire to the water pump, one to the alt, and thats it:drool:

lol...I was hesitant at first. I was gonna sump my tank, but after some reading of horror stories, I decided for a cell. I think I even saw Edgar respond on one post on NMRA...

Since you obviously won't take my word for it...why not ask a big-dollar turbo racer?

Well, doesnt look like I'll get as much done as I hope. I start the Sheriff's academy next Wed( :metal: ), so this will most likely be sitting for the next 5-6 months:( But I'll still be buying lots of parts b/c I'll be making more $$$$

Set the motor in there to see how it all fit so far (and hung the fenders to see hood clearance). Still need the carb and filter so I doubt my Cervini hood would've fit...

Interior almost done. Airbag delete panel should be here soon. It will have dzus fasteners on it and my ignition system and nitrous controller will sit on a shelf behind it.

Need gauges, shifter, and steering wheel hub, quick release, and wheel.:metal:

Thanks. It all will be powder coated before final assembly. I will shave the tensioner and idler pulley mounts off the front cover. Intake, front cover, and COP covers will be sterling jet hot coated and valve covers will be either gloss black or that wrinkle finish. What do you guys think? The elec water pump and alt (it will sit below on the pass side) are black as well.

I was kinda leaning towards the wrinkle as well. Kinda "old school" to go w/ the carb thing:chug:

Finished cutting the trunk out

Still plugging away on it...

The fuel cell is 15gal and will be filled w/ pump gas. I'm fabbing up another cell thats approx 5gal and will hold C16 race fuel. There will be a large "Y" valve that I will switch over when I get to the track. Throw the race timing setting in the computer, and the motor and both stages will run off the race fuel.

Later on, if I can afford to go turbo (91mm:drool: ), it will act as a water/ice tank for the air to water I/C...

Thanks for the compliments guys. The crank is at the shop getting magnafluxed, checked for straightness, and cryo-treated. Opted against knife edging and coating it b/c these cranks are pretty damn smooth and narrow in the weights and have a rounded leading edge. Unlike chevy cranks that he showed me are over twice as thick and square edged. The 3 or 4 hp I "might" gain wasnt worth the $190. I can just jet up lol...

More goodies came today...The rods I've had for a while (Manley billet I-beams) and slugs are custom Diamond flat tops made for the 5.4 motor (.020 over). Should give me 10.5-10.8:1 depending on head gasket used and how much bowl work is done to the heads...

How many grams are those rods?? Just curious, as they look huge.
