I want to swap my gears to wake up my Mark some. I am now stock with an auto. But I plan to be putting down 400 to the wheels through a T-5 before it is all said and done.

I am think 3.73's as the car will mainly be a street car, with occasional strip use

3.73's should be good. Have you looked at the tag on the rear to see what is in it now?

I would say a minimum of 3.73, perhaps 4.10's you have to remember that is somewhat of a heavy car, qand you'll need a lot of gear to get it going.

What is the curb weight of it?

no, everytime I jack it up to work on the brakes I wind up finding out something else is broken/missing and I forget

It is a bunch, I have heard anywhere from 4,000 to 3,600

but I did lose 50 lbs when I pulled the factory amp :jester:

should have a 3.27 gear in it.

that is what I was thinking, not sure if 3.73s are high enough

also not sure how they would work with a turbo

I would invest the money in the AOD. It is more likely to live at 400hp than the T5. 400hp pushing 3600 pounds is alot different than 3000 pounds.

Put 4.10 gear in and keep the AOD. It has a .67 Overdrive. Will be perfect.

you have a lot more faith in the AOD than I do

I've driven one behind 500+ and it was awesome. :nice:
But it had well over $1000 worth into it. Probably the cost of an equally capable T5 or Tremec.

Said trans made probably 50 all-out 1/8th passes with a best of 6.63 at 108mph. Then the guy who bought it has been runnign 7.0's with it and it is flawless. (And I could have bought the whole trans and converter for $800! :nono:)

I recommend a similar route because the weight is easier on torque converters than clutches and 10-spline input shafts of T5's. The money will be well spent.

+1 with COUPE.....get a built AOD and never look back, that and 4.10s or if your going to turbo it leave what you have in there.
