i have an F303 cam and shorty headers with other stuff as well on a '87 GT but would the 185 or 165 AFR heads be best for my application or is there any other kind of heads out there that are just as good only a little cheaper! HELP!

Depends on where you're going with the car. If a stroker or power-adder are in your future, I suggest the 185's...and do a little porting on the exhaust side, since it's the same as the 165's exhaust port.

I really like an Edelbrock Victor Jr. cylinder head...it is a great value and can support big numbers down the road.

Any aluminum head will be better than stock. Probably the worst flowing alumimum head out there would the the FRPP ones

I have been around and owned,165s, 185s, 205s. In my opinion there is no better head for the money. We have had all three heads on the flow bench, and they come closer to their advertised numbers than any head we flowed. I wouldn't grind on any of the ports since they are CNCed, Instead if you are going supercharged order the blower exhaust port. One other word unless i was going big boost or large cubic inch don't get the205s, these heads are way to big for a mild small block.

so the 185's would be ok if i am just going to spray it? and will i need valve relief pistons or anything else before i buy them?

If this is all you are going to do, run the 165's. 185's would be overkill on a stock displacement 5.0 block IMO.
I have made good power with my 165's for the last 4 years

this may be off subject but does anyone know the cost difference between the two, or the port difference?

I think the 185s would be OK. You may give up a little low end when your not on the spray with them, But they may make enough differnce with the spray .The cars we have with the 185s are all supercharged cars so i really cant say how much you would lose. As far as piston to valve this will need checked no matter which head you choose, i have had to cut the pistons with the 165s more times than with the 185s. The pistons can be cut with them still in the car, I'm sure ISKY still sells the pocket cutters. Also remember you can gain clearance with the 1046 FEL-PROS.

Excellent account! They are good heads, no matter which you chose.
