A new hypothesis ...

:hmm:

331 ... NA

Heads ... AFR 165 or AFR 185
Cam ... open to suggestion

185's would work well on a 331

cam....custom for your application

What kind of power would you suppose that combo would put down ... theoretically speaking ...

Your going to have to be a whole lot more specific if you want a HP estimate. Like what type compression, which set of heads you posted, cam choice etc. But a well built 331 won't have a problem making 400 flywheel HP and up.

I also suggest AFR 185's from the choices you gave. Especially with that intake.

Re: A new hypothesis ...

:werd: Like Brad said, the camshaft and other parts of the application will determine the power. SLVRBULLIT has a 331 with most of the supporting parts; it did a very nice 316 rwhp...not broken in fully. I've seen 331's and 347's range anywhere from 285 rwhp up to over 400 rwhp...all N/A. SO there's a big margin there. Cam will play a huge role.

 ok, ... AFR 185's .... cam suggestions? custom? by whom?

Also what would be a good compression ratio to serve as dailey driver if need be ... balance of power and reliability is the goal of this hypothesis ...

I suggest, when you have decided on all other supporting parts, to call Comp and have them suggest a good cam for your combo.

Personally, I would try and stay around 10-1 and under. And that's simply so if you decide to go boost later, you'll have a better comp. ratio for it.

Just my .02.
