Now For The Inside....
Some of you guys have seen my car in person and it's obvious that my build was focused first on getting the car painted and on the road. After my little setback I'm finally getting things done again.
The floor is covered in Peel-N-Seal from the firewall to the fenderwells. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2079.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2080.jpg I put the carpet in this Sunday. It is ACC charcoal mass-backed from 50resto and fit very well. Let it sit in the sun and cook while I pulled the seats & headliner and vacuumed. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2088.jpg The most difficult part was making the cuts in it where the jute backing is real thick. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2097.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2094.jpg I already have the door panels finished and I'm waiting on a window motor kit and door lock actuator kit before I install them. In the mean time I replaced the red headliner w/ black. Old http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2086.jpg Removing foam with wire brush on rechargeable drill. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2110.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2108.jpg All done. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2119.jpg Fabric came from eBay and I've got enough to cover the rear package tray as well. The original is too trashed to reuse, so I've found some thin sheet-board at Lowe's and will use the old as a pattern. The car is quieter as far as noise coming from the floorboards, but with no headliner, door panels, or package tray, there is plenty of noise coming from other places right now. I'll keep adding to this thread as I progress. Let me know what you guys think. |
Almost forgot about this......
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2075.jpg Only need to open the trunk to change bottles now. |
Looking much better. Going to be really nice once your finished
|
Nice work. :nice:
|
looks great !!
|
Thanks for the compliments guys. Installed the window motors and door lock actuators last night. Was able to get the passenger side door panel on and all buttoned up. Should get the driver side done tonight and prob get the quarter panels and headliner in as well. We're gonna ride out to the show in Lineville on Sunday, so I'm trying to get this stuff installed before then.
BTW: I need the rear headliner trim piece for a coupe if anybody has one. My original one is MIA and the black set I bought off ebay a long time ago didn't have one. I've already checked Pull-A-Part and they didn't have any coupes. Color doesn't matter since I will paint all the pieces I've got for better match anyways. Let me know if you have one. |
should be one at my local PaP, I'll check in the next few days as time permits...

Well...I was able to get everything done I had planned to do before going to the show today. It looks great and its crazy how much more quiet the car is now.
The headliner trim and the map light show up a different shade in the pics than in person. They are freshly painted with black interior paint from LRS. Must be the flash or something. I need to paint the kick panels now and install the center console. I'm planning on holding off a little while since I'm going to get a new armrest pad & trim as well as paint the console and all its parts grey. Package tray tracing.... http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2151.jpg Covered. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2154.jpg Installed http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2160.jpg I also covered most of the bottom with scrap pieces to keep it from rattling and driving me nuts. Headliner & sunvisors http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2495.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2498.jpg Quarter panels http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2492.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2497.jpg |
I bet it almost feels like a caddy with alot of the road noise gone

Well, fast is relative.
My car is fast to me. Your car would probably feel like ludicrous speed. Pretty soon you'll be going plaid. :D http://www.wonderjack.com/images/plaid2.jpg |
You can wear 3d glasses and get the same effect lol
|
sliverback i saw the car at the show sunday! great car man i wish you would have been around and we could have met! but anyway the car was awsome!

Thrashed on the car yesterday and today. Going out to Hux Dyno this Saturday with group of guys from work so I should have some pics and videos coming after that.
Fluidyne was leaking so I replaced it with a Northern from Summit. Unfortunately they don't carry a manual-only anymore so I had to shell out the extra bucks for one with an AT cooler. Might come in handy for P/S if I ever need it. While I had the coolant drained I also pulled the lower intake and replaced the lifters since I had a noisy one. Also checked pushrod length and found with an adjustable checker that I needed to go from the 6.25"s to 6.5" to get the smallest pattern. I'll be ordering pushrods tomorrow and hopefully button it up Tuesday. I also made up a switch panel to go in the ashtray area. The heater switch is wired to the red LED so that when the heater is on the LED is lit. When the heater cycles off, the LED will go out. It's a cheap way of knowing the bottle is up to pressure. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_3006.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_3030.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_3036.jpg |

We're planning on showing up down there around 10 AM and staying until Eric runs us off. |
Probably will be down as well maybe. Usually head down every other weekend or so
|
Cool man. Is your car down there getting the turbo setup done?
|
Not yet, still waiting for the block to come back from the machine shop
|
that's pretty sweet man, what did you use to cut out the holes? Trial and error? Just wondering cause it looked pretty precise.

Got some tunes now!
Low budget system, but it sounds pretty damn good. I had everything except the head unit already. I sold a couple things on ebay awhile back and made enough to cover the price of a Pioneer receiver. I put one in my wife's civic and really liked the power, iPod controls, remote, etc...
Before http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_1845.jpg After http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_1896.jpg The front speakers are Infinity Reference 5-1/4" components I had in the rear deck of the Civic but never sounded right. I replaced them with some Rockford Fosgate 6x9s and her car bumps now. Before http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_1850.jpg After http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_1868.jpg The tweeters are mounted in the dash and the woofers are in flush-mount MDF rings painted with rattle-can bedliner. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_1869.jpg Crossovers are mounted in the dash, the passenger side in the glovebox area and the driver's side against the firewall pad inside the dash speaker hole. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_1872.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_1873.jpg The rear speakers were free and came out of the car I got the dash & center console out of. I just cut out the package tray cover I made and pulled/stapled the fabric under. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_1937.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_1939.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_1940.jpg |
Looks good. I bet those sound alot better than stock speakers
|
:nice: i want a coupe
|

I'd like to put some speaker grilles on the rear deck, but there's no such thing as 6x8 grilles since they're only for Ford/Mazda factory installs...so they never come with grilles. I might end up getting some MDF rings made, cover them with speaker fabric, & mount them to the package tray. My brother was giving me a hard time about it looking ghetto-fab. :jester: |
Very nice work....:nice:
|
Looks good! But I would agree making grills for the rear speakers will put the finishing touch on it.
|
Quote:
 if they were ghetto-fab, you'd just have them sitting on top of the package tray all the way across the back like this guy I saw the other day....had like 8 speakers lined all the way across....:meth: |
Really impressive work :nice:
|
Looks great! Really coming along. I agree, some sort of grille or just putting the fabric over them would look better. Isn't that fabric sound transparent?

Yeah, it's not like it keeps the car from moving, lol. Looks great keep up the good work.

I hear ya'! When I get home and get my new toy, I'm probably going to start taking my coupe apart (again), and re-painting it, along with some other changes.

A couple more things...
The same group of guys that went to Hux' place earlier in the year plus several more are going to cruise out to the Lineville show on the 7th. I figured it was about time to get a few more things finished up and change some stuff around.
The intake was getting some bubbling in the paint, so I took it along with the valve covers to Ryan in Pell City to get them powdercoated. He's going to do it the same gunmetal grey as some wheels he did for a friend. I felt I needed some "anti-bling" in the engine bay so I painted the intake tubing black and ordered black couplers to replace the original blue stuff. The most exciting part is I finally ordered some seats. I decided on some Corbeau LG1s since they're a little more aggressive than GTS II's and are said to be a favorite when it comes to comfort. I'm also planning on ordering the Corbeau rear seat upholstery as well as some black plug wires & grey cap/rotor set. I'll update once I get everything installed, but I did manage to get a few pics of the painted parts. incomplete engine bay http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2242.jpg Piping, fender bracket, & window switch mount http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2245.jpg |
:metal::metal:
looks pimp!! I'm going to get my valve covers done while I got the motor out too!! It makes you feel good getting those little things done, they add up to make a big impression!! |
That is looking so clean. Nice work!

Weekend Update
Got the engine bay finished up yesterday.
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2313.jpg Upgraded the air filter from the original K&N to a AEM Dryflow. K&N on left. AEM on right. Figured it couldn't hurt power. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2274.jpg Hank & Ruby supervising the rear upholstery install. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2345.jpg Rear seat w/ Corbeau material http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2380.jpg Corbeau LG1 http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2390.jpg Front seats installed http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2419.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2406.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/IMG_2415.jpg |

Could you tell a difference with the PEAL AND SEAL installed? Was Thinking about putting some in my car.

There's a big thread on the corral where guys have done it and of course there are guys arguing against it. For me, it worked fine, I never smelled it, still don't even in summer when it sits in the parking lot all day, and it was cheap. I'd stay away from putting it on vertical surfaces or upside-down. I think it weighs about 8lbs a roll and I used just about 3.5 rolls to do it from the base of the firewall to the rear tire wells in the trunk. |
Finally got some gauges and a gauge plate. I've been working on getting them mounted and wired up.
Auto Meter Ultra Lite IIs in a gaugeplates.com plate with angled rings. Oil pressure, water temp, and nitrous pressure. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/24fc12cb.jpg Wired them up as an assembly with weatherpack connectors for easy center console removal if necessary. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/877838a6.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/a8a94ded.jpg Now I just need to get all the wiring, etc. done on the car. I plan to move the factory coolant sender to the thermostat housing and put the auto meter sender in its place. |
Good idea with the weatherpack connectors, looks good

looking good. |
Thanks guys.
Can't beat the weatherpacks...it's a little extra money in the beginning, but well worth it the first time you need to take something out and not have to cut up a previous wiring job. The angled gauge setup is going to require some fitting to the inside of the center console. Nothing a little dremel clearancing won't fix. :jester: |
Ya, I've got the gaugeplate in my mont too...pretty nice piece! I had them move the radio to the top (I've got the AOD), move the heat/ac controls to the bottom, then put a "big" gauge hole in the middle and a smaller size gauge hole on either side...looks pretty cool I think....yup weatherpack FTW!

I finally finished everything up. I had a seeping water pump and bought Mishimoto black hoses when I got the long tubes, so I've been slowly chipping away at getting it all done. I relocated the factory coolant temp sender to the thermostat housing and put the AutoMeter sender in the intake manifold.
Other parts of the mini project included a black center console armrest pad, new shifter bezel trim, new pedal pads w/ a manual gas pedal, & ashtray door repair kit to keep the N2O switches out of sight. http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/aa3a8d0b.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/4dd55d8a.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/60b625cf.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/6533b76f.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/e...5/1b01f28a.jpg |
Wow, it looks good.
|
muy bueno!!
|
Looks REALLY nice! I especially like the steering wheel. :nice:
|
I believe this car is easily my favorite fox body I've seen. Everything on it is as good as OEM or better. Very nice work, as always. :nice:
|
Thanks guys, I appreciate the nice comments. Hope to get some weekend cruises in this spring/summer and at least a few First Fridays or car shows.
I REALLY need to get some 1/4 mile times w/ the nitrous...:jester: |
Do you have the ratcheting crimper for the barrel connectors? I was looking at some (I want to buy some that are made in the USA, trying to support our economy) but those jokers were over $100!!!! I found some others that were around $45-50 which is a little more reasonable....Just was wondering which ones you were using.
|
Quote:
http://www.rjminjectiontech.com/coll...oducts/crimper They work excellent for all the crimping I did with weatherpacks. I ended up buying several more connectors from somebody on ebay for this little project. You might even be able to get them locally, not sure I never checked. But the shape of the crimp area is critical to get the terminal connected right. |
