Gonna be a daily for alittle while. Plan to fix the interior, and repaint the car eventually. Here is how she sits now

asilver2001gt 07-29-2013 08:35 PM

Oh hell. I will be the one that says it. Another 6 year project in the works :)

Looks good though. Need more boost!

rtusnake 07-29-2013 09:53 PM

LoL no boost (planned) for now. May just do a pi swap and race joseph :jester:

TheJeanyus 07-30-2013 05:46 AM

You don't want any of this. '98s were rated at TEN more rwhp than '96s. :burnout: And mine has FLOWMASTERS - we all know that's good for 50 rwhp.

rtusnake 07-30-2013 06:07 AM

Mine has a k&n on the maf....yeah

qkjuicedpony 07-30-2013 06:22 AM

Joseph has to race with two spares on the back

rtusnake 07-30-2013 07:12 AM

Mine is setup for roll racing now, hence the big tires in the front

Mine currently doesn't have a MAF. :jester: It'll have a K&N intake, Pro-M MAF, BBK TB, and C&L plenum when it's back together, though. :D

That's my secret. It doesn't make enough power to break traction, so I'm putting 4 spares on it to save weight. :jester:

rtusnake 07-30-2013 10:28 AM

^ Racecar, I'm out

NightHawk756 07-31-2013 04:17 PM

Cool project car....I gotta see this race though!! :D

rtusnake 08-01-2013 07:54 PM

Can't stand the wheels on it so I borrowed these until I can decide on what I want. Also picked up a cobra gauge cluster. Have the parts to do an egr delete and cop conversion as well.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psd70395a7.jpg

TheJeanyus 08-02-2013 07:58 AM

:nice:

I made my own EGR delete. Cut a blockoff plate for the intake on the plasma at work and welded up the nut off the EGR tube to make a cap for the exhaust. Redneck, but it works.

Where'd you get the Cobra instrument cluster?

rtusnake 08-02-2013 12:35 PM

Same here, joys of having a machine shop at work. I think my company should sponsor me as many parts I done for the cobra lol.

Bought it off craigslist from a guy in pinson

TheJeanyus 08-02-2013 02:07 PM

Say, what all is required to do a COP conversion? And what is the advantage other than getting rid of the sometimes troublesome coil packs?

rtusnake 08-02-2013 03:27 PM

Just the cops and wiring. It's basically just to clean everything up. The cops have just as many problems really

rtusnake 08-19-2013 08:19 PM

Making some progress. Hope to finish the wiring up this week
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psbe21a34f.jpg

TheJeanyus 08-20-2013 07:20 AM

Nice. I need to get back to work on mine now that I'm back from vacation.

rtusnake 08-20-2013 08:02 AM

What all you have left?

TheJeanyus 08-20-2013 09:34 AM

Drill out the tie rod bolt holes in the spindles, bolt 'em up, put the brakes on (Bullitt front brakes with SS hoses), adjust the ride height, eyeball the alignment, and get it to the alignment shop.

Also have the aforementioned CAI, plenum, TB, and MAF and a strut tower brace that need to go on. Oh, and a set of 4.10s.

PI swap will have to wait a while. Too broke to buy the rest of the parts and the tuning stuff I need. Need to sell some of the extra parts I have lying around. I'd like to have it done before the kiddo is born in February, but we'll see.

rtusnake 08-20-2013 09:39 AM

Got a lot of work ahead of you. I gotta round me up a set of gears as well

TheJeanyus 08-20-2013 11:46 AM

Got mine cheap on Craigslist. A guy bought an Explorer 8.8 w/ 4.10s to put in his lifted Ranger, but he wanted 4.88s or something. I think I paid $50-75 for them.

rtusnake 08-22-2013 06:11 AM

Cop conversion was a success. Gotta finish up cleaning the wiring up. Also found an 03 radiator in the shop, so it'll be going in as well

rtusnake 08-27-2013 06:48 PM

Installed the s281 wing/deck lid today. Luckily it was white so I can wait and paint it with the car

Is that just LED bulbs? Regardless, it looks much nicer and brighter!

rtusnake 11-04-2013 09:04 PM

Yeahs just a led 194 replacement peanut bulb. I got them at superbrightleds.com

ncontt 11-07-2013 10:58 PM

awesome@! Thanks!

TheJeanyus 11-08-2013 06:48 AM

How many LEDs do you have to swap? I know to do that on the 4Runner it's something like 50-60 LEDs. :notnice:

rtusnake 11-08-2013 10:28 AM

5 in the cluster and 2 in the hvac control. Cluster has some smaller bulbs for the engine lights and turn signals but I didn't change them

rtusnake 12-16-2013 08:37 PM

No kidding. Michael, I have 6 jack stands I'm not using if you need to borrow some. :jester:

rtusnake 12-17-2013 10:50 AM

Lol the silver one is almost off, I'll swap em out

TheJeanyus 12-17-2013 11:46 AM

So is the '96 going to have a stock PI setup, forged internals, and long tubes? I'm still undecided what I want to do with mine once I have a place to work on it again.

rtusnake 12-17-2013 05:47 PM

It's a stock Mach shortblock. Just bumps the compression more. Will have mhs stage 2 heads, cms stage 2 cams, gt valve train and a victor jr setup.

Adam B 01-04-2014 07:30 PM

Na... Procharger/lsx swap in the silver cobra

rtusnake 01-24-2014 04:53 PM

More progress and parts. Installed rsd, 98 console, aluminum driveshaft. Also lower intake, seats, brakes, steering, and new heads cam in. Also pulled a 4r70 at pull a part today.

uh oh. racecar.

TheJeanyus 01-30-2014 07:20 AM

Wait, I thought this was your DD? That's a manual steering rack, isn't it? O_o That's more hardcore than I'd want in a street car...and this is coming from a guy with stiffer than prom night race car suspension. :D

rtusnake 01-30-2014 10:20 AM

Yeap manual rack. I bought a cougar for $300 so it's racecar time lol

Italian LX 01-30-2014 11:00 AM

Manual racks aren't that bad on the street. It sucks to turn while standing still, but even going a couple mph, it's pretty easy to turn.

It's nothing like a power rack after removing the belt. That's a bitch because in addition to turning the wheels, you're also having to force fluid though the lines. Also, the ratio is a bit lower for the manual rack too.

TheJeanyus 02-06-2014 07:09 AM

My grandfather had a mid 80's Escort Pony with manual steering, and that's the car I learned to drive a manual in. It was a bitch at low speed (which was the only speed it would go  ), but being FWD may have made it worse.

I think you should keep the different colored trunk lid and maybe find another rough looking body part to put on the car and a quiet exhaust system.

turn it into a hustle car like whats his name from georgia with the coupe they called 'the gnat'. LOOL

rtusnake 01-23-2016 12:13 AM
